My piggies are in big lavender hutches in my garage so not completely exposed, but I wondered what people use to keep them warm. Mine have their hay and private compartment, fur tunnels and baskets. But I'm wondering what to use to maybe surround the hutch. Maybe some spare carpet now it's getting colder? PAH want £62 each for the lavender hutch huggers and i'd need two. I'll buy them if I have to but wondered if there's a cheaper option!

i have a lavender lodge but mine is in an outbuilding i use an old quilt to cover the top and sides they also have lots of hay and there little houses to go into

A quilt sounds a good idea. The hutches are good but I want to cover those tiny gaps and just help keep the chill out now it's getting colder. Going to rummage in the loft later, I'm sure I have an old duvet up there :o

Five of my piggies are in Lavender lodges too. They are in a large shed and have loads of hay in their bedding compartments - stuffed right to the top and I've also started putting a snugglesafe in their hutches at night. I leave it till about 10.30pm to put them in though so they will stay warm through the night. I only have two at the moment but I've just ordered another one from vet uk for £16.19 because they have 10% off them at the moment and it's free delivery too.:)

Hi i've put tube heaters in my guinea shed, they work really well and aren't expensive either. I tried snugglesafe which were ok but the heaters are fab!:)

That's an idea. I'll ask my other half, he's an electrician so I'm sure he can help me with that!

My hutch is in our out building with a carpet around the entire hutch and a towel nailed to the top of the hutch to pull down the front at night. They also have a snugglesafe heat pad and lots of hay x

I just looked up these heat pads. How do you know they're not going to be too hot after microwaving them? Or does the fleece cover protect from this?

I have a insulated shed and a heater on a thermostat it always toastie for my piggies.

Tubular heaters in a shed - is this effective? We were going to go for a panel heater for our fosters outside in the shed, but after realising they were 2kW thought they would be rather pricey to run. We then saw some tubular heaters for about 800W and wondered if these were the types you were referring to Tanya?

Presumably you would need to insulate your shed too otherwise you would be heating the "elements" as well!

Our shed piggies live in a large 6x2x2 hutch and I have added wooden houses inside the hutch, heat pads which I pop on top of the houses(which I always wrap in old towels to be on the safe side, plus my lot wee on them!rolleyes), lots of fresh meadow hay and then at night I cover the whole lot over with a thick blanket. Every morning when we have a cuddle the piggies are lovely and toasty.:)

When I win the lottery I will be investing in a new shed, fully insulated with heating and lighting - note to self to buy new ticket!

hi yes they are effective(so effective that we are going to install a thermostat so i don't have to keep going down and turning them on and off, i don't want roasted piggies!) but it does depend on the size of the shed.
got mine from here! i will see if i can check out the wattage. but they are only supposed to cost the same as running a 60wat light bulb. got mine from here!

I think they chose to bump this thread to get their cheeky wee promo into the forum in context.
