My piggy boy is 4 years old and has never had anything other than woodshavings (which are used throughout his cage) to sleep on. He does sleep in an igloo but everything i've put in for him to lie on, he's destroyed {:| Naughty pig!

I've tried him with hay, of which he has massive amounts. I put hay throughout the day in both his pigloo and his eating area, but he eats both all in one go and then tends to sleep in the spot where it was as he pigged out so much on the hay, he is tired!

I've also tried him on pet shop bought soft paper shreds which basically looks like toilet roll shredded. He eats it so I have to remove it because it might harm his digestion. Grrrr!

I've also given him the fluffy bedding on advice from pet shop which is just like fluffy soft teddy bear stuffing, but another pet shop owner said this wasn't recommended for pigs, just hamsters and gerbils.

So i've exhausted all our options. I don't think he's cold when he's sleeping but it can't be comfortable sleeping on the wood shavings!

I did think of buying him a baby's fleecy blanket and cutting it down to size for him, but I wouldn't like him to get tangled in it or hurt himself. I know he wouldn't chew this!

Cosies work a treat, we also have people on this forum who make them (me included! :)) ) You can wash them over and over so their reusuable and your not spending alot every week on bedding.

You could also try vetbed, or fleece instead of sawdust. (I use vetbed its amazing!) the setup costs can be pricey (around £5-10for the fleece set up and £20 for vetbed) but these outweigh using bedding which you have to buy again every week, I have saved so much using vetbed!

The set ups are easy to do, you place newspaper underneath the fleece or vetbed and off you go! They do need a sweep of the poops every day and newspaper changed too. The vetbed needs washing (for two pigs) one a week, and fleece every 4 days or so.

Heres some photos for you, if you wanted some insperation!

A cosy cup, with pad (you just take the pad out and pop it in the wash so it's easier to clean)

For my boys, I have made my own fleece cosy thing.
They absolutely love it.
I just fold the fleece up, and then peg it onto the cage:

This is my newest, Noodle in the fleece. Two pigs can fit in this too.
