Someone is interested in 3 of my pigs, their hutch is 4.9 foot by 1.5 foot. Now i know they should be in a 5 foot hutch but as this is 3 inches short do you think it wouldbe ok?
see if they've got a run and how much floor time they'll get. i think a better family with a smaller cage is better than a not so good family with a bigger cage. also, will they be indoor or outdoor?
I'm not sure about the width - should be 5' x 2', so it's not just a bit short in length, it's quite a bit short in width? I'm not good at maths but I think the square foot is quite a bit less than a proper 5' x 2' - also it depends on the size of the piggies, if they're long-haired or large pigs they do need more personal space, I feel
4.9ft (57" ) x 1.5ft (18" ) = 1026 sq inch which is 7.125 sq ft
The depth accounts for quite a lot - my hutches are 5ft long but only 21" deep which means they are equivalent to a 4ft x 2ft. To ensure my trio have enough space their hutch is 8ft long giving them 14 sq ft in total
me personaly i dont like hutches that are 2 foot deep as I find it hader sometimes to get the pigs if they are at the back and sometimes feel its more stress on their part, but thats just me, but most of mine are about 20 inches deep
