I'm sure I'm not alone - there are some things that, for no real reason, I find sinister.

As follows:
clocks
boots (with no feet in)
gloves (with no hands in)
mushrooms
slugs
melons/ pumpkins when growing and when there are more than one
motorway service stations
canals

I may think of more later. What about you lot?

As soon as I saw the title of the post I thought canals - one of yours too. How weird! It's the thought of deep water in an enclosed space, ugh! Yet I love the sea, rivers and streams.

Spiders (naturally!).

The thought of eyes looking in the window. I read an Amityville book years ago and it said about red pigs eyes (proper pigs not guineas!) looking in the window. It really freaked me out. I spent the night on the sofa a couple of weeks ago, sick guinea in next room, and when I woke up I kept seeing little green lights from the appliances. That freaked me out too!

You have some unusual ones on your list. Will be interested to hear what everyone else's are.

Hmm dots, like erm the way rain sits on your car if its been waxed, kinda like a raised bumpy pattern, if you see what I mean!
Deep water, although I can swim like a fish, swum at county level in my teens.
Muddy potato peelings.
::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ;D

slugs definatly cannot for the life of me see why they exist,
quaysides always had a fear of being in a car and it plunging into the deep water and being stuck inside ugh it really happened here when some one drove off the end of the car loading quay for the ferries into deep water, I'm actually shivering just thinking of it now, and certainly cannot watch Titanic cant bear to see people under water I end up holding my breath and panicking, think I drowned in a previous life,
anything stuck in the plug hole like food and grease hubby has to clean it out,
and listening to poeple cleaning their teeth makes me go cold,
touching raw meat its cold and wet :o

think I drowned in a previous life,

So do I actually, I don't know what else would account for my irrational fear of deep water, to the point where if one of my kids fell off the end of a pier I dont know if I could jump in after them, just being around deep water like on a pier makes my chest feel tight like I cant breath

thats the feeling I get but am used to the pier as Sandown has one of its own, but the feeling is like a deep panic, if i'm on the ferry I always sit near the muster station, and plan my escape when my kids were young i had deep worrys becasue i had 5 and planned it that 4 would grab a leg and arm each and one was left, irrational I know but i was a freaked because 1 was left and i made sure hubby knew he had to grab one even though he could'nt swim then, 98) 98)
going on a cruise in 05 I hoped it would cure my fears all I found out though was that the ship was not too far from land that we could be rescued in time ! the emergency talk left me shaking, yet in march we fly to caribbean and cruise back and its far from land yep already checked it on my globe lol, so am taking my rubber ring with me or maybe my dingy,
but i truly think I must have drowned in a previous life, I also know I lived in Portsmouth years before, yet only lived in London and Essex, dad was born in Chichester nearby but i always knew i would live back down near Portmsouth, why?

Slugs
Spiders
Seaweed
Heights, particularly glass partitions in the shopping centres, the way people lean on them :o i nearly pass out. Wont walk near them either

All i can think of at the moment

Images of microscopic creatures like House Dust Mites - they look like some evil monsters from sci-fi movies. >:D
Images of fish and other creatures that live in the bottoms of the oceans where no light reaches them - again they look so scary. :(
And any mini beasts caught eating my plants. >:( - slugs and vine weevils in particular.

OMG yes movies, can't watch those really spookie ones like totally FREAK no blood or anything yikky i'm such a woos when it comes to those things
Clowns, mmmm some are ok but some are totally freaky isn't it weird
I got over the fishy type things after watching "Nemo" (so acurate too, i've spoken to my dentist he said it's brill)

Smelly toilets, oh vomitous.....................

I dont find many things thats bad, but i HATE HATE HATE Clowns! They are just evil :o :o :o Since I was very little I have not been able to have anything clown like in my room or in the house..... they just freak me out!! :'(

oh and raw egg it makes me heave, when I was younger mum and dad left me at home while they went away for the weekend, friday evening I dropped an egg, sunday night it was still there with a bowl over it for mum to pick up, its slimy and like snot ugh, anyone eating a runny egg churns me up as well, any on my fingers is scrubbed until its raw , but i love baking so have to be careful and tend to look away I've got good at it over the years

When I went on the ferry across to France I was worried I'd fall overboard so hung on :o I seem to fear falling other than heights as I think I'm going to fall. I never used to be until I was made stand on a high platform at school for a photo that was very narrow and I hated that. I'm also paronoid around fire, when my Dad had a coal fire when little I used to hid from it and I couldn't bear to look at it :(

you would love the spinnaker tower in Portsmouth then, its got a glass floor and you stand above the middle its very high, its funny becasue all the kids were laying on it running across it, the adults on the other hand were holding onto the side of the rails lol

Ooohh no way! ;D

And water lilies.

these aren't things that scare me, just things I find sinister.

The Dark
Forests cos i think someone might jump out
cats on a wall at night (no idea why)
People peering through a window, Our kitchen has a window that backs onto the garden and i get freaked that someone might look in
annnnnnd what else oh cars driving past in the rain?

i think its because i watch too many thrillers and horrors

def. clowns. after starting to read IT at the age of 12 or so, I have been afraid of them.

also walking past mirrors and windows when its dark, I always think some other face is bound to look back at me..
I hate it.

Open Stairs, I always think a hand is going to come out from between the steps and grab my foot and pull me down, I always run up our stairs when it gets darker, I wish we had closed steps :(

Porcelain Dolls.

I am fine with slugs, surprisingly. Hate spiders though.

What do I find sinister ....?

Puppets
Old fashioned dolls
Snakes - i dont like the way they move
Crocodiles - as above
Blow up dolls with those big sinister mouths
Pointy teeth
Any toy that looks like it might come alive during the night
Doors slamming
or opening suddenly

We are going to have a new 'ride' in Melbourne it's going to be a glass type of lift that goes out from the building and (GULP) it will be over 70 floors above the ground, i'm getting dizzy just thinking about it
I've know about this for yonks as Allan (OH) has been doing the kitchen design in the building, pays to sleep with the staff eh.....
(Sorry get you up to speed, we run a business and it's two families so of course i'm a boss and i'm always telling Allan that i'm the director ;D)

Oh yes those old dolls that have weird faces, hey wasn't that part of a movie? (come on someone will know which one..)
Those stupid clowns at the carnivals, so revolting
