My girls have hay racks from p@h which holds the hay away from the floor. However one of my pigs recently got a piece of hay in her eye which then lead to eye drops and pain relief and I watched her again today and as she pulls the hay out of the rack, little bits fall onto her face and I really do not want another eye situation

How do you have your hay? In racks,, in bags? Pictures are welcome :)

I keep my hay in a bowl on the floor.

My girls would definitely wee and poo in a bowl and loads would get wasted which is why I have yet to try that option. Your guinea pig is incredibly cute! Ive never seen colours like that before :)

I have a bent c&c grid above but I use INGS hay and it is soft so bends easy so I wrap it around in a burrito shape and pull soft strands through the grids. They do the rest. I am also anal and any hard strands go in the bin!

I think it is impossible to totally prevent hay pokes. In six years I have experienced two. Strangely, shereens was caused by very finally chopped medow hay so you just cannot win. I put hay in a pile as it creates a more natural environment for them. They like to play in it and sleep in it as well as eat it.

I have meadow hay in a pile in their big litter trays they play in that but as you say... I am scared still they will one day poke their eyes out :/

I use a variety of hay racks and a tray with papelit on the bottom to soak any mess up. I don't have a picture of the tray because it is being washed but I have photos of everything else.
These racks and balls were bought from zooplus. They have a special offer on £1.99 for the large hay balls http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/accessories/hay_racks/13210

The cage was cleaned out around 2 hours ago...look at all the poops ¬_¬

Correx hay kitchens for the soft hay (meadow, orchard grass and Vitakfrat Vitaverde rose hay) and then the timothy is in fleecy hay bags.
