I use fleece for bedding. My home made ones have been made extra large to allow for shrinkage and can therefore be washed at 60 degrees to ensure bugs are killed. However, many proprietary ones advise laundering at 40 degrees - or even 30 degrees.

For these products, I use ...

http://www.halononbio.co.uk/halo-flea-and-mite-lauundry-detergent-50

as it was recommended to me on this forum.

However, I noticed an advert for a product made by dettol the other day ...

http://www.dettol.co.uk/antibacterial-laundry-cleanser0ml

I have contacted Dettol customer services and received the below reply..

Thank you for your email regarding Dettol Laundry Cleanser. If you are able to wash the pet bedding in a normal wash in your washing machine, using Dettol Laundry Cleanser should not be any kind of problem.

I was just wondering what other people thought ...

I have started using the one in the first link, on recommendation of @GloriousGuineaGirl but I have not seen the Dettol product before. I would say the first one is better as it is anti-fungal to some extent. I only use it on the piggy stuff though as it is not vegan so wouldn't use on my own clothes.

I used this once for my chins and piggies....the piggies kept constantly wiping there noses and sneezing as it is quite fragrant. I would stick with the Halo now known as Paragon Flea and tick bed wash as @helen105281 stated it is anti-fungal which is a plus in my eyes. Plus the smell is very subtle. As I have no idea what is in the COSHH data regarding the dettol I do not trust it. The Paragon is not tested on animals and is proven to be safe as it is made specifically for animals. Dettol is quite strong and I would be wary of using it again. Dettol were rather vague in that reply...if in doubt...do not do it. :)

I agree Dettol were a little vague in their reply. I think it's a new product.

It's just a pity that the Paragon (originally Halo) stuff comes in such small bottles.

Well I know where I am off to tomorrow after work then, thanks for that.

just for your info.... halo/paragon is being sold in B&M bargains for £1.99 a bottle at the moment :)

Wow - I didn't know they sold it in B&M - I've been getting mine mail order . - Guess where I'm going tomorrow !

I found mine in the Long Eaton store, but not in the Beeston one, maybe ring them before you make a special journey @helen105281

It's on my way home so should be ok, am sure I will find lots of other stuff I want while I am there.

I have the dettol one, 4 bottes for £8.40 on amazon it was vs £4.50 a bottle in tesco couldnt refuse that when I have dog bedding, rat bedding, friends who stay over washable nappies etc to wash.
