Sorry people I am just so upset

we have had our piggies now for about 10weeks love them to bits there re my babys

for the last 5 weeks my boyfriend has been having running eyes nose and bad thorat

after reaching the internet looks like he is allergic to them. they have been living in our living room with us. the only other inddor place for them to is in our consevry but with all the glass it gets very hot.

so looks like they are off outside I am heart broken I never wanted an outside pet. to me it seams like there are going to be out there out of the way. and I don't want to rehome them but what do I do .

is it kinda to rehome with someone who can have them inside

Has he tried antihistamines for allergies?
I'm allergic to dogs, cats and my piggies. I break out in a rash when I hold them and the smell of the hay makes me sneeze a lot ( I didn't know I was allergic to them until I got them) but it's kind of managed with strong prescription antihistamines, and I hoover a few times a day to keep the hairs at bay... I keep my 2 in my room, I thought about putting them outside but I just can't do it :P

Have you checked if your boyfriend is actually allergic to the guinea pigs, and not to their bedding (wood shavings?) or their hay? Some hay cuts and types are notoriously allergenic, like timothy hay and especially timothy hay with seedheads. If I were you, I'd test some alternative bedding solutions and hay varieties just to exclude them as possible culprits.

I just wanted to chime in and say I am allergic to everything!
Horses in particular, but I owned them for years!
A combination of antihistamines, hand washing, and good bedding choices made it bearable and the pleasure I got from them far outweighed the allergies.

It would be good for your boyfriend to check whether he is allergic to the guinea pigs themselves or to the hay etc. I for instance am a hayfever sufferer and need to take antihistamines all year round, but I can handle guinea pigs without problems.

In order to help you better, it would be great if you please added your country, state/province or UK county to your details as we have members and enquiries from all over the world. Please click on your username on the top bar, then go to personal details and scroll down to location. Thank you!
