What do forum members think of this ?

Opps this is an item on BBC internet news about a lady in Lincoln that has 140 guinea pigs living in luxury guinea pig hotel.
Just wondered what everyone thinks about it or if anyone knows about it

The owner used to be a member on here but had to leave for "personal reasons".

There has been some controversy I believe but if they are giving these little piggies a lifelong home then that’s good (I presume they are all rescues?) It’s not a site I visit but it does come up on fb sometimes

Sophie is a Facebook friend of mine, she adores those pigs and does her absolute best for them. When you get to know her as a person, not what is spread by people who just dont like her, she is a lovely, genuine person just trying her best to spread the love of guinea pigs. Nobody is perfect, nobody should be put on a pedestal, but equally no-one should have to deal with the hate campaign **** is currently going through either.

The forum staff and regular posters are familiar with this set up. The owners and their set up can engender strong, and at times divisive opinions. We do try to keep this forum a harmonious space so would prefer not to comment in any way that may be misinterpreted by one of the owners’ many ardent followers.

Nope. Some are rescued but not all.

About a third are rescues, another third she's taken on from people no longer able to keep them and the other third are personal pets she has purchased :)

Wow. What a lot of piggies. 🥰. I’ve not heard of them before. But I hope they are loved and well cared for.

They certainly look a happy bunch, can’t imagine how you remember all their names :hmm:

I watch *** and her partner regularly on her Facebook page. She comes across as a caring person towards her piggies even employing a vet weekly to check on any ones that might be poorly which she films for us. She seems knowledgeable and completely genuine. She has a great sense of humour and I really like her. 😘

I was watching BBC Look North news yesterday when they introduced an item about a Yorkshire couple who have 150 piggies. Her husband has built a big shed with lots of runs and tunnels - it did look good but she said a top to bottom clean takes 12 hrs. She loves all of them and they have a large following on some media. I was disappointed with the main presenter on the programme though, as he ended the item saying he thinks he can smell them from miles away . Disappointing.

I've merged your topic with an existing one on the same theme.

Can't really comment on this specifically as I'm not familiar with them, but I do know that that's far more piggies than I'd be able to cope with, even if I had all the time and money in the world! I think I'd be really worried about missing an emerging health issue - I'm paranoid enough with three!

I have 47, and yes l know every single piggie by name. Can be a bit confusing as they get older and they're coat changes colours.
@teddymouse if you showed me pictures of your 47 pigs with their names underneath and pictures of 47 people with their names underneath, then showed me the pictures again without the names, I can guarantee I would remember a lot more of the piggies' names :))

My mum showed me this and I definitely had my concerns. I'm also aware that keeping that many Guinea Pigs is a lifestyle choice and very few people can do it well so I worry that promoting that life may encourage people to get out of their depth in hording situations they can't control regardless of how well these people do it.
