I came home and he has this red stuff rimming his eyes. It looks like blood. What could this be? I’m super freaked out

Most of the red stuff has gone away. Does this warrant an emergency vet visit?

Anything to do with the eyes is considered an emergency. Whatever he has doesn't look good, I wouldn't hesitate to take him to a vet.
Maybe could it be a hay poke?
Hope he is fine!

Yes I would definitely have him seen by a vet. You don’t want to delay in having eyes checked

I hope he is ok

Oh no bless him. Is it both eyes? Maybe he’s rubbing his eyes on the hay rack when he’s reaching inside for hay. I’d just put the hay on the floor.

Good luck at the vets.

Hi

Please see a vet in case it is a hay poke or an injury to the conjunctiva from a hay stalk stabbing under a lid. Vets have a special dye with which they can inspect the usually not visible damage under UV light. Guinea pig eyes work the same as other regular pets and need the same meds, so any general vet will do. Haver her seen as quickly as possible.

Potentially bleeding eye injuries count as an emergency here in the UK. Other non-bleeding eye injuries or inflamed conjunctiva should be ideally seen within 24 hours.

All the best. If you can, try to get hold of some plain tear gel at a pharmacy. It is more effective than eye drops but those will also do. They do by no means replace any vet trip and antibiotic medication but they can help with comfort and especially in the case of the gel will help to speed up the healing process.
