Hi everyone.

I'm currently using towels as bedding for my 3 pigs. I layer woodshavings under newspaper and a towel, but still find that I have to machine wash the towel every day.

This is managable when they are outside in the hutch, but during the autumn/winter and whenever the weather is very poor I bring the girls in to the house and they live inside with me. I use two sides from my metal run to make a sort of cage, and protect the floor with a shower curtain, then layer towels on top. The problem with this is that when I bring the pigs inside, I cannot use woodshavings as an absorbant layer, and the towels get very stinky and wet after a few hours.

I want to start using fleece as a bedding, but this still leaves me with the problem of what to use as an absorbant layer under the fleece.

I was looking at something like this, but wondered if anyone can suggest a different product to use as an absorbant layer:

I'm not interested in buying vetbed as I think it's beyond my budget and would wreck my brand new washing machine.

Thanks :)

Personally in my indoor cage, i just use a towel with a fleece on top tucked over the sides of the towel, obviously with the fleece you have to wash it 3 times before use to get rid of the layer on the top which prevents water passing through. But i've never had problems with that, and i change the fleece and towel every 4 or 5 days although most change every 3, i just clean out the poops daily to keep it clean (: Some people use newspaper underneath the towel but i tried it and it didn't make much difference in my opinion !

Also i've heard people using those sort of bed protectors with a fleece on top, although i never have myself, some people also use puppy training pads (: so someone else may be able to recommend you on that.

I am using a mixture of mattress protectors and towels; but I know that others have trialled incontinence pads. The important thing is that you need to look for a 100% cotton underlay for best absorbency.

You still need to change frequently. Unfortunately, there is no ideal bedding.

Hi My 2 boys live inside and i only use fleece , every morn i scoop out poop and change water then around 7pm (because i live in france this time is cool outside ) i let them out on the grass ,roll up the fleece and put a new one down and then fresh veg , it takes me 2 seconds to do it . i bought 8 cheep fleece blankets so have plenty of change . Every 3 days i scrub bottom of cage .

I'll keep my eyes open for something 100% cotton that I can use as an underneath layer. Until then I've bought 10 puppy training pads from Poundland. They were all very exicted by the new fleecy hutch today!
