:...one of my new boys barney is really very skittish and he hates being picked up to the point i have very litle skin left on my hand!
i know it takes time and he has to learn to trust me but his companion who the shop had bonded him with is happy to be picked up and loves cuddles!
but barney is all teeth and now is really not happy to be held or cuddled
am spending lots of time with him in his house stroking him, this hes ok with
but i am worried as he is not getting as much excersise or handling
i think he may have been mistreated, one oif my girls biscit is very skittish but never bites me she may growl occasionally but i just tell her to get a grip and she stops! lol i have ten piggies in total and love them very much i pick them all up and have cuddles and lap time daily i know thier noises and reactions now i think i am making him worse as i am becoming very nervous with him please any advice is gratefully recieved
dont know if breeds make any odds he is a brown and white rex approx 6 months old x x

you could try using a cuddle pocket. I used one with Tiger when he was very skittish and also have started using one with my new scared girl Tia it means she can sit in it and hide whilst on my knee and having a stroke. I've been getting george out with her as well so she feels more secure with her friend there!

This is the person I got mine from. I got ones for two piggies though, as thought it be better to fit two in. If you send her a message she will **** be able to make one for two for you!

This really works, I have done this with a number of piggies, and it seems to keep them calm. Niki uses this method too, I know it helped her with Haggis (or Sporran, or something Scottish) He was the pig from hell and was awful to handle. I think he probably comes running to her now for a cuddle. x

I use the cuddle bag trick as well as using an upturned pigoo for transport ot and from lawn; with a bit of a treat inside, they learn to go in quite quickly. Sometimes, the transport stops on my knee and we have a cuddle.

It is mainly the picking up that many guinea pigs don't like; as soo as you can work around that, they will become friendlier a lot quicker!

lmao @ Sporran Jane. Yes i did this with Haggis who wasn't exactly over-thrilled with humans. I used to put him in a cat igloo. This made him feel safe whilst i ensured i could stroke him. Sadly tho' Jane he doesn't come running for cuddles- i still get "the look" but he will at least be squodged, weighed & have his nails cut without sinking his teeth into me or squealing like he's being murdered :(|)

Isn't 'squodged' a great word. It really says it all. Knew you would fall upon this thread sooner or later Niki. x
