2 weeks ago one of my boys, Fred died in my arms. The day before he had been popcorning and playing same as always but he was a bit sniffly, and he was making this clicky sound. I could see his heart beating in his side which had not seen before.I looked in piggy remedies (it was at night bout 10pm) and put a tiny dab of Viks on his nose. He seemed quite happy and was busy munching away. When I picked him up the following morning the noise was much louder, he really struggled ( not like him at all) and went floppy in my hands.
I couldnt get in to speak to the vet that day. His brother george seemed fine but lonely so last week we got him a baby boar - Percy, who he adores
Anyway tonight George has been sneezing, and he's making a clicky noise. he's eating and everything normally
I guess what I'm asking is what can I do tonight? I'm terrified he'll pass away too. I adore my boys - they live in the house -and I couldn't bear George to go too

aww, chick. I'm so sorry. what you could do is put lots of vick in a bowl with boiling water in the room where they are, but not where they could get to it. then they'll breath it in. are they on woodshavings? if their bedding isnt fleece or towel now, why not cover their bedding in towels/fleece/sheets/duvet covers? maybe it'll stop their bedding aggrivating them, which it could. I'm racking my brain here. x mallethead?/

I'm posting again to push this upto the top

have you looked on guinea pig lynx? if i find anything, i'll post the link for you

Thanks for the link
Looked at URI as thought that would be most likely - his eyes are fine, can't see anything coming from his nose. He seems fine apart from the snuffily noise - worried sick as I know they can go downhill fast, (and I keep thinking was it my fault with fred for picking him up , he made this choking noise but nothing was in his mouth:( )

Daren't put a sheet or towel in as they try to eat everything, including the throws on the couch lol and my pyjamas

just trying to think of something to help and thought maybe snuffly cus of bedding. could it be a heart problem?

Thanks hun. He seems quite happy, which doesn't help as I'm wondering if I'm paranoid

it's best to worry too much than not enough!
i'm terrible. i worried about ruby's side, i worried so much i convinced she had cervical cancer or something simular, but my vet confirmed its absolutely fine but I'm to go straight back if it seems to grow or if i get worried again x

Hi Tracy, sorry no one has replied to this before now, you need to get your pig to a vet as soon as possible, possibly take Percy too

He most probably has a URI as you correctly said, just because there are no other symptoms other than clicky breathing it doesn't mean he doesn't have one.

He should have his breathing listened to, and should be given baytril by the vet (an anti biotic). Do not leave without some kind of treatment. septrin is the preferable anti biotic but a lot of vets don't seem to prescribe this.

After keeping me up til 3am worrying he's fine this morning, no clicky noise or anything:)

Hi Tracy,

Sorry only just seen this. Yes, as Starla said he needs a vet. I would get him in today. Pigs can hide illnesses so its best to be on the safe side.

hope he is ok,

Louise
:)
