hi i have moved there hutch to the warmest part of the garden put a space blankey over the hutch under the water proof wind cover with a fleace blanket and put the space blanket on the flooe of the hutch and they have a furry washable tunnel thing in there bed ?

but its due to be minus 13 tonight and I'm a little worried about them being too cold !

The best thing you can do is bring them indoors. You will get to see them loads more too. It is so nice to have them with you. :)

i cant do that as they are piggies that live out doors i just dont know how to add to there bedding to keep them warm :)

lots and lots of hay too. Not sure that the space blanket on the floor will be ok, as I'm not sure about them eating it?

You can buy snugglesafe heat pads, which you warm up for a few seconds in the microwave and they stay warm for hours. A few of the other members have them.

if you have nt got a heat pad for tonight, put a cardboard box in the bedding area (to cut down the space, and give them somewhere to snuggle in, carboard is warm) and absolutely fill it with hay, also a big cover, bubble wrap is warm over the whole hutch. oh and by the way, outdoor piggies can become indoor piggies very happliy !:)

Wouldnt bringing them in to a hot house from a cold garden upset them more than staying outside though?

Lots of hay, check their water in the morning and give them fresh as it will be frozen, fleeces fleeces fleeces and more fleeces :-)

where is the cheapest place i can buy fleece from tonight ? i dont mind popping out if it means our piggys being warm :)

can you turn the hutch round so it faces a wall? Also you can get really cheap plastic greenhouses, you could zip them in there. If you have an outside cool room like a outside loo, or cellar? you could put them in a cardboard box and pop them in there....hope they will be ok

Do you have either an Ikea, Dunelms, Wilkinsons, or even a Pets at Home as all of them sell fleece.

dunelm mill was burnt down :(
wilkinsons is shut ikea would be shut when i got to them and pets at home wouldnt sell the fleece :( i may take a drive over to tescos or chop one of our fleeces up ! but which one as i dont have a old one

You need to wash the fleece three times without fabric conditioner before you can use it. This helps to wick the water away.

Our Ikea is open till 10pm.

TBH if I had some fleeces at home I would just use one of them, and replace it with a new one next time I went shopping.

Somewhere like asda or tesco will sell big fleeces if its one of the larger stores, and although ideally you should wash three times, you wont have time to do that before tonight so you could just put them in , it wont be as nice and dry but the urine will still soak through the fleece just slowly

If you're desperate can you pop an old duvet over the top of the hutch? Any shelter you can provide will help ...a shed, a greenhouse, a garage?

My boys live in the garage, I can't bring them in either, but they've lived outdoors for the last 3 years. They have 2 heatpads and a pigloo and a cardboard box filled with hay to snuggle in, I've also completely filled their bedroom with hay.

I'm worrying about the temp tonight too, -5 forecast here so not as extreme but even so....

if they were brought in now, they would certainly have to stay in until at least late may, we brought a guinea pig in a few years back, had always lived outside, on a very cold night, and it did nt do him any harm x

well i have managed to get a decent sized fleece from asda for a fiver and wrapped it round the furry tunnel and made sure the other end was covered and given them some fresh veg/salad to :) heres to happy warm piggys :)

You will be amazed, you go out and stick your hand between them and they will be as warm as toast. Mine have loads of hay and last night I had to go and get the chickens water in as I forgot earlier and Matilda's little head popped out of the sleeping compartment, out of a little hole in the hay

Hi,

I've considered homing my piggies outdoors in the summer and have vowed that I will stock up on Snugglesafes for piggy bedtime if I do. :)

They are £12.97+packaging from VetUK which I don't think is bad since they are £21+ from Pets at home. This is for the heatpad and the cover. They claim to provide up to 12 hours of warmth.

Other alternatives are obviously as you've said your fleeces and cosies :) My piggies loved old pillows stood up creating a tunnel.

If you've got a hutch cover, this will provide abit of covering from the elements.

x

My Piggies live in the garage in the winter and the garden in the summer, i have the hutch covered up with blankets and bubble wrap when its cold and fill there bedroom bit of the hutch with hay but I don't have any snuggle safes ect. Should I get some?

I recently got snugglesafes for my two boys (I got them one each) as they live in the garage in winter and garden in summer, and they LOVE them! I can't believe their reaction when I put a newly heated one in their bedroom, major squeaking and dive bombing goes on! :(|)

Its sometimes a struggle to take the old one away in the morning as they are both perched on them and wont get off! inbreeding
