Hi
I have 3 boars and they get very smelly when they are on the fleece I want to put them on bedding but not sure what type of bedding and which is safe to use also I need cheap good quality bedding
I switched to fleece because bedding was becoming to expensive to keep buying a big bag every week I don't know what bedding use that is cheap and good quality
Any advise
Thanks x

It's worth looking in your local farm/equine shop if you have one as they usually stock some sort of bedding like megazorb, shavings etc for a quite a low price. :))

I'm using pine shavings right now and my piggies don't seem to mind it, but I'm finding it to be such a pain to clean. I think the next time I do a full cleaning, I'm going to put down newspaper and just cover it with hay, instead.

Lots of delicious hay for them to eat whenever they want and something comfy to sleep on. Bonus. :))

I've tried fleece with my 4 indoor girls but it just wasn't it me, I found it to be too high maintenance.

I'm now using newspaper, a sprinkling of wood shavings and hay and they love it plus its so easy to clean out-just roll it all up and away we go :)

I'm using Medi-bed, which is very finely chopped straw. It's very soft, dust free and very cheap for a massive bale. It's horse bedding so you could get it from your local equine supplier

Hi
Thanks so much for all your suggestions
I think I'm going to get vinyl tiles and put 4or 6 handfuls of shaving over it cuz iv got a big cage and every week just scoop it up with dustpan and brush and disenfect the tiles what do * think,
good Idea

That sounds like a pretty hassle-free solution to me. (: I'd watch to make sure the piggies don't decide to start nibbling on the vinyl. I doubt it but sometimes they can chew on some really strange things. @)

Let us know how it works out. I'm a new piggy owner and sort of playing trial and error with different housing setups, myself.

I think what works for one person may not work for you...it's trial and error.

When i was a teenager i used aspen shavings and found it to be quite nice and easy.

For my new boys i used fleece and towels...it was very high maintenance and smelled bad after one day. Now i have them (my hamster too) on a mix of aspen shavings and carefresh and a thin layer of hay on top. Its amazing.

Aspen shavings come in a big bag and you can find carefresh online reasonably priced...and if you mix the two the carefresh lasts a long time.

I've tried fleece, carefresh and shavings but am now using hay on top of puppy pads. I was using newspaper underneath but the puppy pads dont take as much room in the rubbish and now my bins are being collected every 2 weeks that makes a difference.

From my boys point of view they seem to prefer the hay whatever I use underneath, lots of popcorning when I freshen their cage up daily

See I can't do hay because I tried that twice and one of my boys eye was watering and itchy and I could tell it was uncomfortable but then when I put him back on fleece he was fine and his happy self care fresh is really good but very pricey so I thought I'm going to make my own care fresh bedding whith newspaper I seen a vidio on YouTube of someone making there own carefresh
