As it says on the tin what are the basic standard service items (i know it makes it sound like a car but best comparison i can think of) & what age should certain things be done at, must do's, recommend &/or optional?

erm lol no vaccs, mine dont get check ups, but they are only young, as long as you clip nails, check them over, weigh them weekly, then theres not much else you can do. some people do choose to worm their piggies :)

I only go the vet when their is a problem or if I need to confirm the sex of a pig. (I originally thought Sunshine was a girl). As Kelly said just check them over and see a vet if needed. I think that is most important, some people say I'll see how they go when their is a problem but no if in doubt get medical help, otherwise it could be too late.

i agree, when i brush mine twice a week i also feel for lumps and bumps and any sore spots. but i don't take them to the vet unless i am concerned about them or if there is a problem. i know with mine car trips and vet visits stress my piggies out so the less i have to do it the better. especially when GP savy vets are extinct here in oz. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: hugs and cuddles to you and your fur babies. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

i always do a weekly health check so thats, check eyes-no weepy/crustiness, cloudiness etc. or anything abnormal, ears-look inside to check it's all normal not too much ear wax etc., nose-no crustiness etc. look at teeth and mouth- no overgrown teeth, no sores etc. and bottom- is it clean etc. nails-check they're not too long, feet are there any sores? no hairloss or lumps, anything like that, it's really just a general check over, you get to know what a healthy pig should be like O0
I weigh weekly too and record it O0 And also if you watch them and get them out regularly i'm sure you'd notice if something was up O0 they don't need vaccinations, some people worm them, i'm looking into this, it's really the owner's choice O0
I always get a pig checked over when i get it, unless it's been at a rescue, because they'll have had vets looking at them O0

from what i have read on here (correct me if i am wrong) a guinea pig only has to get wormed if it is outside. have had GP's for years and have never wormed mine. i would hazzard a guess and say if piggy had worms there would be present in the poops. good luck with your piggies. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

i would NEVER contradict maryh! i think it is up to the individual if you worm your piggies! our girls get outside grass all the time from the back yard and we have never wormed our piggies. perhaps it is different in the UK or maybe it is something we aussie's don't know about. thanks for the tip. hugs and cuddles. :smitten: :smitten:

Oh, how do you know if your piggies need worming? We give ours outside grass and in the summer they have a run in the garden so am worried now!

dont worry :) loads of people feed outside grass and dont worm and never have problems, some people worm regular, if i piggie is loosing weight it can be a sign of worms, but i dont know much more lol :)
