I'm trying to identify an alternative companion animal species after my cats - to whom my father is increasingly violently allergic - passed away from old age.

Is it likely that he will be allergic to the guinea pigs themselves?

Both he and my husband suffer from hay fever - will keeping guineas pigs (with all that hay they need) cause residents or visitors to my house to sneeze?

If he has hay fever then it is very likely for the hay to cause a reaction. You could visit a rescue with your dad and spend time with guinea pigs to see if he has any reaction to the piggies themselves.

To add onto that question, my house is full of people with many allergies. I myself am not allergic to guinea pigs, but my family is. I really want to keep my guinea pig at my house instead of my dad's house. Any advice on how to do this? I was thinking something along the lines of keeping him in my room and airing it out when possible, but I would love either confirmation that my strategy will work or other suggestions.
