I got my new vet bedding through the post on Tuesday and the girls still don't seem to be happy with it. I do think they prefer their shavings and hay, but i'm going to have another go with this and see!

I always spot clean my girls daily and tidy up their beds because they seem to like making them as mucky as possible! Keeping mummy on her toes :)). The layer underneath their vetbed (made up of newspaper and baby dispoable changing mats - newspaper all over and mats in the worst areas) seems to always be completely soaked through.
I spot cleaned them yesterday and took out all the bottom layer, shook off their bed and gave them a thorough tidy up. Feeling all accomplished I went to Boots, grabbed some more changing pads for the week ahead and went off to meet my friend.
Found out this morning that before my Mum went to bed last night she changed them again! She always pops in to say goodnight to them all rolleyes and she checked underneath their bedding. It was completely soiled again. So she sorted them out.
I fed my girls their greens this morning and presumed all would be well, but had a little nose underneath and it's wet again. I'm guessing my girls pee crazy amounts! Fudge isn't so bad as she has her select corners and she even poos in a certain spot now, but Honey and Truffle pee EVERYWHERE! so it's a nightmare.

Any tips? I don't want to give up just yet! pow-pow
What do you guys use underneath if you have vetbed? x>>

My goodness - they must pee a lot! I haven't got vet bed but I do have fleece. I think a big cage obviously helps so they pee over a bigger area - and litter trays so at least some of the pee is going in there.

I use vetbed and mine is mostly the same. The surface is always completely dry though, so I just figure that the vetbed is doing its job. I use a few layers of newspaper under it and change daily. The vetbed is washed every 3rd day.

I seem to be rather lucky with vet bed lol. I currently use puppy training pads under mine in the shed, previously I've used a cheap terry towel mattress protector which I wasn't too impressed with as it used to overflow. I've also used baby changing mats, the washable kind with a waterproof layer sandwiched between cotton sides. I loved that as it absorbed the pee very well and didn't feel nasty when picked up, but it added quite a bit to my wash load.

The puppy pads are pretty good though. They do feel quite moist when I clear the shed out, but most importantly they hold the pee and the vet bed is dry. I change my vet bed once a week and poo-pick daily, this seems to work very well with my girls.

I'm still using the washable baby mats in the hutch as they choose to spend a lot of time in there and 7 girls in such a small space means there's a lot of pee lol. I still only need to change it once a week in there though.

How big is your cage? The recommended size for 3 pigs is 13 sq.ft.
Smaller cages will get dirty and have to be changed more often.

Fudge lives separately to Truffle & Honey. They both live in 120 cages :) until we move house (hopefully in the new year) when they were have a bedroom! :))

Incontinence pad's for mattresses I used one's that I could wash with the VetBed worked a treat. Did you wash the Vetbed before using he it?

Do not you fabric conditional or softener, washing powder only.

I didn't actually, should I have? The paperwork it came with said I didn't need to. Although thinking about it i really should have...mallethead
Just normal incontinence mattress pads? Ooh :)

My boyfriend has literally just brought over a bag filled to the brim with newspapers. I think he thinks I have a tribe not just 3 stinky ladies rolleyes

I think some people have used mattress pad's, but I previously used incontinence pads which I found worked really well.

I'm sure it's fine, as they've been washed now :))! x

Vet beds get so soaking underneath because they are so good at ebbing the moister away. The top layer is actually water resistant, which means all the water (pee) soaks straight through to the bottom layer immediatly. This is why they are so good. I'd try incontinance pads, or maybe even wood cat litter if they dont dig up the bedding.

x.
