My 2 month old Guinea pigs were on Timothy hay when I got them and the guy said that Timothy hay was just about the same as alfalfa, I thought that young Guinea pigs needed alfalfa hay. They are also eating oxbow young Guinea pig pellets witch have alfalfa in them. Is the alfalfa in the pellets enough, or should I get alfalfa hay too?

Timothy and alfalfa and definatly not they same. Alfalfa is great for youger piggies, as it contains higher calcium and protein to help healthy growth and development. I'd say to just feed the young pig pellets and timothy hay. You could also feed orchard grass hay as it is a bit cheaper. I get mine in 50lb bales for 18 dollars at my local feed store.

@Peggy the piggy You could get them a bit of Alfalfa hay for a treat if you wanted.

It is recommended that youngsters have alfalfa but they will be okay if they don't and just have a good diet.

Alfalfa was really difficult to find over her in the UK years ago so my first pigs never had it and they were all fine.
