Werewolf Skinny Pigs Advice Please!

Hi all,

I was just wondering if there is anybody here who keeps skinny pigs?

I was given a werewolf skinny pig yesterday and i was just wondering if they need their nails clipped more often than my other "full fur" GP? (in case of scratching his bare skin)

I was advised to moisturise his skin once a week and from what i have read i need to keep him slightly warmer than my other indoor pig. Other than this i have seen nothing to suggest they are any different than other pigs care wise.

How old is your new pig, is he alone? Did you plan and research getting a skinny pig? Was he breeder or petshop bought? There have been reports of severe health problems with skinny pigs in the South East of England recently.

I'm sorry to see that you have lost Walter on Sunday. Do you have any other animals or have you or other members of the family handled other animals recently?

Bordatella can present with conjunctivitis, closely followed by severe breathing problems/diarrhoea, it is often fatal in pigs. It is known as kennel cough in dogs, snuffles in rabbits, cats can also carry it.

I would be very concerned at bringing a new piggy into a home where a pig had passed with his symptoms without a minimum of 4 weeks quarantine.

this is very sad :( i must confess to being confused by the dates on this post, bordatella is rife in dogs in our area , can it be passed to piggies via dogs ?
 
Yes - that's my understanding too.

Walter died last Sunday and the new skinny arrived Xmas day.

Given that Walter passed from what could be bordatella I am concerned over the new pig's welfare.

I am so sorry about Walter. I am afraid that I know little about skinny pigs but I know hairlesswillow and a few others have had experience with skinny pigs. Maybe PM her?
