I've had my piggies 1 week today and I've scratched myself to bits trying to crawl under the hayloft to clean the corners and got a bit fed up so today the piggies have got a new home!

I've went from the 3 storey (5x4 ground floor with 5x2 hayloft and separate 5x2 cage on the top) to 2 separate single-floor cages.

I found it too much hassle getting underneath the hayloft and was spending more time cleaning out the piggies than I was giving them a cuddle, and me thinks that isn't right!

For tonight, Dynamite and Echo are in a temporary 120x70cm cage while I demolished their old one and did the same to the big cage. It took me 5 HOURS! I still haven't rebuild D&E's cage but will be doing that tomorrow but the rest of the guys are over the moon in their new setup.

Because there's no upper level, they can see around so much easier and I feel happier knowing it'll be easier to clean and also down to stability of the cage (the cat sat on it the other day and part of the roof come away, luckily it was still connected to the body of the cage so it didn't come crashing down on the piggies) I've now got one big lid which is made rigid and sturdy with the bits of timber that were used as upper level support. In all that time the piggies free-ranged around the kitchen. It looked like a poo factory when I put them back!

I'm gonna wipe all the photos from the digi camera tomorrow sometime and get some good pics on here (my new phone has a naff camera, not used to it when my old phone had 8 megapixel!). Mark my words, there WILL be pics on here sometime tomorrow! x

Sounds like alot of hard work - well done and can't wait to see some pics!

Wow - Donna you must be worn out. Yes ease of cleaning out cages is important, I've really hurt my shoulder trying to bend and get in corners. Looking forward to pictures!

I found that problem with an overhang of anything more than 1 cube in an upper deck, such a problem!

Hope the rearranging goes well. I have spent a week (evenings only) redesigning cages before!

Well, its done... I'm happy with it now, thankfully! and more importantly, the piggies seem happy with it too, Echo was popcorning all over the place - I think its cos she's got more room again, she just got used to having a bit space then I had to put her in the temporary cage where she faced Dynamite's amorous attentions more than ever (I'd heard of it but I actually saw her spray him in the face yesterday, it did the job and put him off!)

I'm so bad, I should be in bed now instead of being on here, Harriet's getting christened at 10am tomorrow morning, so I'm proud parent AND godparent (my nephew Lucas is getting christened at the same time), I'll look knackered in the pics - I've gotta get up early to shave me legs haha! :)>>> :x

I know I said I'd post pics today but I've been far too busy running around buying decorations, taking the cake to the venue AND rebuilding a guinea pig cage so I'll put them on tomorrow evening at some point (along with piggie pigtures), when I can relax after the christening (hubby's bricking it for some reason, I think he must think he's gotta make a speech or something!)

Nighty night everyone!

Donna. x

Sounds great
Can't wait to see the pictures! :D
Congrats and best of luck with both christenings!

Well here's the pics of the finished cage. I'll post pics of the piggies in the photo section:

This is the 5x4 cage. The wooden beams across the lid are to give support. I've kept them that long so that I can use them as handles to lift the entire thing. Its hinged at the back.

The 5x2 cage is at the far end with Dynamite and Echo residing there. I've got correx and mesh panels dividing the two cages and as far as I can tell, the piggies are unaware of the others.

Its MUCH easier to clean now and the piggies in the big cage get more light cos before the floors above it stopped a lot of the light.

It now takes up all of the conservatory, I'm just so glad I've got an understanding hubby! x

That look so cool!
I wish I had that much space for my pigs! :(
How many do you have in the 5x4 altogether then?

Yeah, the christening was fab thank you. Harriet was so good and it was lovely to be surrounded by all our friends and family. I stuffed me face - the buffet was gorgeous and so was our cake. Adam's cousin's wife Jen made it as Harriet's christening present. Here's a pic of the cake:
