We finally have our boys, Maui and Hei-Hei! My husband hand made their cage (still working on the ramp) but theyre getting more adventurous by the day. Their cage is around 2m long on one end and the other side is just over 1m long..then they will have access to the second storey once the ramp is finished.

Maui seems to be the more confident one, whereas Hei-Hei is still hiding away. We've had them for 3 days now and Maui has started taking food from my hand and my son's hand..i just love them so much!

Do we need to take them for a vet check up? And do they need regular treatment for mites etc? Ive read through the new owner guides on here....hopefully the photos upload!

Hello and welcome. You have two gorgeous piggies there, and they are settling in already. Your cage is super, well done Daddy! As long as they are eating lots of hay, veggies and a little pellet food, drinking and pooping, then they should be fine, you can weigh them once a week and keep a note of the weights. A check up is always good for new piggies and will put your mind at rest if you are at all worried. If you don’t have any reason to think they have mites then they’ll be fine. If they are scratching or bald patches, open sores then go see the vet as shop bought mite treatments are pretty useless. Most of all enjoy your piggies x

Congratulations on your new piggies - they are gorgeous.
Where did you get them?
If it was from a good Rescue they will have had a health check but a lot of vets like to do a health check when you first register your pets.
Mine don’t charge for the registration check.

Enjoy the piggies, ask any questions you need to and post lots of photos

Thankyou! Theyre very loved already! Hei-Hei is still rather scared to be handled but has started to come closer! Should we be handling them everyday ? I dont want to stress them out !

I never handle new piggies for a few days.
I talk to them and offer them food.
As they get slightly less scared I gently stroke the top of the head.
The first time I handle a new piggy is when I clean the cage for the first time.
With my last 2 arrivals, Priscilla was OK sitting on my lap for a few minutes, Phoebe would only be held if she was safely tucked into a snuggle pouch.
Every piggy is different so be patient and allow them to set the pace. It's worth it.
