Hello everybody,
Hope you could advise me.
I've noticed my guinea pig (male) has a strange toe nail (didn't have that in the past when I clipped his nails).
I see he is biting it more than others, maybe it's bothering him.
Attached a picture of it.

Thanks in advance!

Hi! It looks too long and could do with a cut to allow him walk properly again. It looks like he may have caught on it, but not ripped it out at some point.

I'm really scared to cut it, it looks thick and hard, I thought first it maybe some kind of infection on the nail. It looks like if I'll cut it , it would hurt him...

Ring your vet clinic; there is usually a nurse or a vet who has piggies themselves that will do it for you for not a huge fee. ;)

The nail doesn't look thickened like it would if it was fungal.

Thank you I'll do it! I just was really worried about it...

My past piggy, Bunny, had the same toenail like that. It seemed she stubbed her toe to something and the nail has lifted coz there was some blood on it. We didn't do anything apart from clean it to make sure it won't have an infection. After that, her toenail started growing like that and it was quite thick. She never had any problem from it anyway.
