This morning I was cleaning his cage and I found this in there- it was mixed with pee so I cant tell if it’s diarrhea or just poop that got peed on and smashed- any help is greatly appreciated!

Hey, my personal opinion is that even mixed in with wee that poop looks abnormal.

How does he seem in himself? Has his diet changed recently? Have you seen him do any normal looking poops since he was cleaned out?

He seems fine, he woke up this morning and was wheeking like usual, and he there are a lot of regular poops since his cleaning last night. He also ate all his greens and has been eating hay, he jumped at the pellets I offered as well. I did just start him on Oxbow hay instead of Kaytee recently, could that be it?

Glad he seems fine, is eating normally and has done normal poops since - they are all good signs 🙌.

Did you swap over the hay gradually?

I'm so glad! Unfortunately no, I had ordered the new hay but there were weird shipping delays, and by the time it came he had just run out of Kaytee hay so I had to just give straight Oxbow.

You may find the above linked thread helpful.

I am not a health expert but if he were mine I would keep an eye on him as he seems to be okay now. Weigh daily to make sure he is not dropping weight. Do see a vet if you are concerned.

It is advisable now to switch from the routine weekly weight checks and instead weigh him daily (each morning). That will enable you to more closely monitor hay intake. You cant gauge hay intake hay eye so they can be eating less without you realising.

If his poops are soft again tomorrow then cut veg out of his diet, prepare to step in with syringe feeding and see a vet if his poops don’t normalise after a few days off of veg.

I hope he is ok

It could be the abrupt change of hay that may have caused some gut upset.

I echo what Piggies&Buns has advised above.

Hope everything is okay.
