Hi
Ok, this is abit late now because the fur on the blad patch is growing back but in June we had to take my guinea pigs to a Pet hotel kennels to be looked after whilst we went away on holiday for 2 weeks. Brandy died whilst there and as we were into our second week of the holiday. We got a call from them saying she just died on one of the woman's laps whilst she tried to feed her. There wasn't really anything wrong with Brandy before we took her but she did start breathing weirdly now and again, but i thought it was because it was hot outside and was making her like it. But i think either it was something at the kennels that caused her to die because she was soo shocked and nervous where she was or perhaps the breathing problem started again and she died because of a breathing problem. But it's weird why she died whilst at the kennels and makes me wonder whether they did something.
Also my other guinea pig Cookie, when we went to collect her. I noticed a bald patch at the back of her near her bum. i don't know what it was but it look a while for the fur to grow back. Cookie did not have this at all before we took her. Could she have possibly got lice or mites or something whilst there that caused her to have the bald patch?
On the advertisment for the kennels it says IMMACALELLY (sp) CLEAN kennels. But i don't think it is if the cage Cookie was in possibly had lice/mites in it perhaps from someone's dog or another guinea pig. Or maybe Cookie was stressed at being somewhere else so she started pulling her fur out or rubbing herself up onto the bar of a cage causing the fur to come out.

From this, ok maybe Brandy did die of a breathing problem but the issue with Cookie is weird. I know from experience not to really trust kennels and she is not going to a kennels next time we go on holiday.

I may be wrong but as I understand it mites can come with stress. And Guinea Pigs are generally a type of animal that gets stressed easy.

Moving house really messed my lot up, even thought they still had their same hutch / cage and the same people looking after them. Two had a fight and one has possible mites (waiting on vet to decide cause of action as he also has cuts from fighting). And one passed away the day after we moved.

I had a guinea pig die of fright on fire works night even though he was inside and everything.

It could be one of many things from stress to some sort of illness. Maybe a check up with the vet would be an idea.
