Weird jumping on bed sheet only (not sure if its popcorning!) help!

help! i love this site! i have so many questions to ask since i joined yesterday and you all have been so helpful so far!

I have many guinea pigs before, but mine have never done what Scruffy does and i dont think its popcorning. When i cuddle him on the bed, after a while he starts doing this weird thing - it looks like popcorning but it looks like hes uncomfortable with it, he throws himslef around and sometimes kind of rolls on his side whilst running around and makes tiny little squeaks. He also comes running up to me like hes irrated and scared. can anyone help - its so hard to explain really but he does not do it anywhere else but on the bed! i dont have bed bugs before anyone thinks so! i clean my bed once a week and hoover the mattress regularly so I'm a tad confused!

have you checked him for lice? Sometimes if they have an itch they will act like that.

he had lice when i first had him badly and had him treated and check him regularly as well as treat him on the precautionary side, eg, powder, spot on (or whatever its called) and has washes in lice shampoo every 4.-6 weeks - and i havent seen any lice! i know his skin is still sore from the lice he had. He is is a texel so has so so much thick curly fur, its sometimes so hard to see, but i have checked most spots and its clear of lice. so v v confusing!

Maybe its from when he had it before, the wounds just healing and its itching him. You seem to be doing a lot to prevent him from having lice so could be unlikely. Does he have redend skin? Could be mites? I have found a lot of the shop products don't work as good as the ones the vet uses.

It could just be him healing though and the sore bits getting itchy.

well i queried that with the vet recently and they said the treatment he had for the lice also would have killed mites etc because he had it so bad, they used quite decent stuff. its the stuff thats absorbed through the skin and it did wonders i have to say. no reddened skin - i thought he may have been funny with the washing powder/conditioner i use or maybe its the fabric of the sheets- he is a precious little thing and is sensitive to alot of things! he has allergy to sawdust and hay.

i think it could be that, i just worry bout him so much cos hes my baby boy! hehe! :smiley6600:

i know they are like your wee children. It could just be that what you were saying. All you can do is keep an eye on him. Sounds like you are doing all the right things and are in contact with your vet so try just to enjoy being with him. Sawdust is a pain i had to stop using it as one of piggies quite a few years back kept getting mites from it, she was quite sensitive to things. her room mates never got anything but she was constantly back and forward to the vet. Good luck. Sounds as though he is ok though so try not to worry.
