HI, one of my guinea pigs is making really weird faint huffing sounds. It replaces her sqeaking with the sounds. Is she choking? I took her out of the cage and I am watching her carefully it sounds like a small little bee. Please Help!

Hi!

Some piggies can lose their big loud begging wheek as they become older. This is not a health problem.

However, if you are in any way worried that your piggy has lost its voice altogether and that there could be a potential respiratory infection or other problem behind it, then please have her vet checked.

If there is any concern a vet trip is a good idea.
If there's an issue it can be dealt with, if nothing is wrong you will be reassured.

she is only about 9 months and it kind of sounds like wheezing. is it normal since she is young

I would recommend to have her vet checked. Online advice without seeing and hearing the piggy and the problem means that we can only go by your somewhat vague description; we can never replace a hands-on vet examination, nor are we qualified to do so.

I went to the vet the huffing and wheezing was just her getting water up her nose, but she apparently had a fungal infection and we caught it just in time. She is getting an oral medicine to treat it. I did lose her trust a bit, but hopefully I can regain it. Thanks for all your support!

Baytril is usually given for a chest (lung) or urinary infection. It isn’t given to treat ringworm unless it is infected. Did the vet say if her chest was clear?

I'm not sure he did say something abut it being infected though. She has had ringworm before and he said there was a problem if it kept coming back
