Hi all!

One of the two babies I rescued recently has weird colored urine. I know young Guinea pigs could have an odd colored urine, or so I’ve heard before, but I’m not sure if this color is normal.

I’ve had a female piggy who’s had UTI’s since we brought her home, but her urine was always dark red. Not this rusty-ish, orange color?

I’ll be taking him to the vet as soon as possible and as soon as I find out which one it is (I’ll be separating them for the day and placing dog pads under them so I can figure it out quickly.)

Thanks a bunch for the opinions.

As Kelly has said, when urine sits in the air it chances to a rusty brown/orange colour. That is completely normal and not of concern.

I would keep an eye for fresh wee's just to make sure they aren't coloured at all to reassure yourself. Obviously if there are any other symptoms at all then definitely consult your vet

I once took my boy to the vet for this - we had to collect fresh urine to take in but they said we could keep it in the fridge overnight. It was nice and pale when he did it but an awful rusty orange after being in the fridge overnight! There wasn't anything wrong though.

I’ve figured out which Guinea pig it is. When his urine first comes out, it’s like a brown color. I’ll attach a photo of his urine compared to his buddy’s urine.

His down below area also looks a bit swollen & a little hairless on the right side now which I’ll also attach photos of.

I’ll be calling a vet in the morning to get him seen as soon as possible for the swelling and hairless spot on his down below area.

If it's brown when he pees you're doing the right thing. Sometimes eating a lot of beet leaves or red pepper can make a scary tint but this is temporary. You've identified your culprit and yes he is a bit balder on one side so a vet check is the right thing to do. If you are able to get a fresh urine sample for the vet they might be able to test it on the spot for the presence of blood or infection (they might provide a sample bottle in advance or if you live a while away they might say to try and get a 'human' one from a pharmacy and just tip it into that!) You have to persuade them to pee in a plastic tub anyway - it's not a completely sterile process.
Good luck little chap x
