Hi all,
I have three adult sows. One of them (the oldest, Coco) seemed to be almost chewing on my other guinea pigs fur on her lower back? I have only seen her doing this once. I am wondering why she was doing this

It’s called barbering. There’s not always a reason as to why they do it - they can get carried away with grooming, they can do it due to stress, or just no reason at all. If they self barber (chew their own hair), then it can be down to pain or skin irritation. Speak to a vet if you are concerned though

Hi!

Please take the time to read our barbering guide and see which situation applies.
Please see a vet in case you suspect a health issue.
