Hi, since yesterday one of my pigs started to simply doesnt like me.... for weeks now she was so friendly with me, she was following me around the house, climb on me every time she had a chance and accepting every kind of petting but since yesterday she changed out of the blue, she runs away from me ,she doesnt let me touch her/pet her and she hides in her hut in every chance! She doesnt seems to be sick or something as she eats/drink normally and she evens popcorning more than usual, i hope she is fine but its really heartbreaking to see you beloved pet stop liking you all of a sudden, for the last 3 months i spent countless hours trying to tame her and i was so happy with what i achieved so far! Is it normal for a tamed pig to act like that all of a sudden? She Is really trying to avoid me touching her at all costs.....

It may just be her character, she’s now decided she doesn’t want to be touched (which is very normal for guinea pigs to not like being touched) or the other possibility is that as their hearing is more sensitive, that she has heard something which has spooked her

She is also a bit moody, any chance she is just moody for like 2-3 days for no obvious reason? I think she changed her behaviour after i started pay more attention to her baby, any chance she is jealous or something? One new think she does is turning me her back when she eats, usually she was on my legs while eating her veggies but now she takes a bite and jumps of my legs, she doesnt run or hide simply jumps of my legs and stays there with her back turned on me and jumps on my leggs again when she wants to take a piece again....

If a piggy has noticeable changes in behaviour it is always worth a vet check to make sure that there is no pain or underlying illness causing it, but its quite unusual and not really natural for piggies to be as tame as you describe, their prey instincts and interactions with their own species are much more natural behaviours- we are just the vegetable dispenser who can reach the fridge! As @Piggies&buns says perhaps something spooked her. But moodiness may also be hormonal, a strong season, or if it persists possibly the start of ovarian cysts... worth a vet check anyway!

She is almost 4 months old, is it normal for piggies that young to have cysts? She also had some really white/milky pee yesterday but i think its just calcium deposits? Could it be related to her behaviour? She was really tamed for the last month, literally following me around like a puppy and as long as i didnt lift her up she was fine with every kind of petting! 2 days ago i tried to teach her to accept lifting up maybe she is mad/scared at me from all those liftings....

Ah 4 months old... entering her teenage times! Unlikely to be cysts at that age, more likely the equivalent of a human girl being 13 or 14 years old... of course everything they liked to do with their parents when they were 9 or 10 or 11 is not what they want to do now! I suspect then that this is just teenage hormones and her teenage personality developing... when our Piggle hit 16 weeks old she turned into a hormonal monster... for about a year lol! :)

A year? I thought they are adults by the age of 6 months, maybe thats the case though
Thanks😁

No, they aren’t adult until 14 months of age. Teens is 4-14 months of age
Oh i see, i hope thats the case and not some kind of sickness cause there is no exotic vet around and I'm on an island....

We can not say for definite that it’s hormones and age related, as we aren’t vets and cant see your piggy.
weigh her daily if you are concerned though as reduced food intake and consequently weight loss can be a sign of them feeling unaell.

Pewter turned into a hormonal monster at around 4 months old, maybe slightly later. She usually loves to plonk down on the sofa and have a snooze but during that time, there was none of that 😂 we weren’t allowed to touch her, she chattered her teeth at us whenever we came close - she was an absolute nightmare! Thankfully, she went back to her old self after about 4 weeks. Now the only time she‘s behaving that way is for 3-4 days around the time she‘s in heat. But as Piggies&buns said, that doesn’t mean that it’s the same for your piggy and I‘d still get her seen if you are concerned 😊
