I don't know why but coco always follows Olivia during floor time. Does anyone else's piggy do that? Also,Olivia always runs in circles during floortime and in the cage. So confusing!

Hi!

This is perfectly normal behaviour. Guinea pigs move as a herd of a number of groups settling close by with their own territories to their feeding ground at dawn and dusk along paths in the thick underground in single file. In the lead is generally a very experienced group leader who knows the safest way and can spot dangers ahead; another experienced piggy will often bring up the rear. Nudging the bum ahead with the nose is piggy speak for 'move on'.

You may notice that guinea pigs on the move have a special chunter; this serves to stay in contact when on the move while they cannot see each other and also an update on the them being OK. Youngsters are at their loudest and most vocal when they are the biggest risk of predation and accidents as they explore their environment and learn to master it and start to increasingly strike out on their own (age ca. 4-6 months in early teenage).

i never knew that! thank you for the information! guinea pigs are interesting pets and animals!

Luna nudges Nova in the bum to move on. I think sometimes she just wants to sit and chill a while but Luna nudges her bum so on occasion Nova squirts wee at her 😂

The piggie train! Totally normal... often dominant pig leads and subordinate pigs follow. That way they wouldn't lose each other in the wild. Some of my most cautious pigs wouldn't ever do things like leave the cage for treats unless there was a leader to follow!
