Hi

Individual weights vary much more than any literature suggests. Much more important than the actual weight is the 'heft' or BMI - whether a piggy is a healthy weight for its size and is neither overweight or underweight at any stage of the life. The weight also changes naturally over the course of a life time.

You can only put any weight loss (or sudden weight gain) into its proper perspective once you know where each piggy ranges in terms of their normal healthy weight and what age they are.

Our weight guide explains it all in much more detail from feeling for the heft/BMI around the ribcage to weight changes over a life time, the natural weight range and how to use the weekly weigh-in (during illness daily) as your most important health monitoring tool. The weight guide also explains the weight swing over the course of a day and when we actually talk about weight loss and how soon to see a vet.
Please take the time to read it. You will find it very helpful in so many respects: Weight - Monitoring and Management

I've had adults live to 8 years of age that just about struggled in at over 800g in the prime of their life and a large boar who was borderline underweight at 1500g. I've also had a rescue-born baby adoptee that needed a helping hand at 40g birthday weight (about as low as they come) live to over 8 years and celebrate their 8th adoption anniversary, beating both her larger average-sized sisters. Weight in itself doesn't tell you much unless you can put it into the proper perspective.

George (black and white) is about a year old and 1272g. Boris (cream satin) IMG20231008161107.webpIMG20230824111548.webpis about 9 months and 1148g

I have a lot of piggies and there is a lot of variation in their weights.
Here are a couple of pictures I took a few months ago during Sunday Weigh day of my biggest girl, Violeta and one of my smallest, Bessie. As you can see Violeta is a large, long piggy, where as Bessie is much more petite and has always been slim too (but not underweight). In these pictures Violeta is approximately 2 and Bessie is about 4 1/2.
