Hey. My girl Mabel (5 and a half) has got quite a few tumours which the vet has identified. There’s nothing we can do and she isn’t in pain. She is eating and very happy (she’s the black one in the picture). But she is still losing weight. On average she has been 830-870g most weeks since January. However the last two weeks she has dropped again to 815g. I am giving probiotic too which she loves. She is very bony but is lively, still bossing around her friend and eating well.
Any advice?

I would switch to daily weighing for a while to keep an eye on it. If it continues to decline then you may want to think about a vet visit.

It is seen as a cautionary amount of weight fluctuation.

Hope she is alright x

I’m sorry to hear about the tumours but glad that she is still enjoying life and piggy stuff. Although the loss is not significant (50g+ in a week), I would still consider weighing her once daily (morning) to keep an eye on her weight. Due to the weight loss, she would do better with a based top up (recovery food) to replace the hay/fibre she isn’t getting. You’re aiming to help her maintain her weight, with gaining a bonus.

I hope she has many more happy todays with you.

Thanks for the replies. I have switched to daily weighing and even within a day she can fluctuate by 20/30g but is around 800g. My new problem is that she is constantly jumping on her friend Millie - to the point where Millie is now running away from her screaming whenever Mabel comes near. Mabel is the dominant piggy so not sure why she is doing this so much. Any ideas?

The screaming is most likely submissive behaviour. Has this change in behaviour been recent? Is she in season?

Fluctuations are normal. Because of this it’s recommended you weigh once rather than multiple times a day. Keep to roughly the same time and don’t take into account other times you’ve weighed her.

Yeah it’s been the past few days. I guess she could be in season - never thought of that. Mabel has been spayed due to having ovarian cysts but Millie hasn’t. Let’s hope it’s that then and nothing more. Feel so sorry for Millie. Every time she sits down Mabel is chasing and mounting her.
