Hello,
I have a 2 year old guinea pig who has recently been spayed due to 4 ovarian cysts.
Before her surgery, one of the reasons I’d noticed she was poorly was weight loss (as well as fur loss and other things), so after surgery I was hoping she would put on some weight.

On the day of surgery (17th Feb), she was down to 800g and 3-4 months before she was around 1.1kg. She was weighed at the vets yesterday, and is now down to just over 700g. Vet said to weigh her again next week, and if she’s lost more then to bring her in.

I’m currently feeding her oats mixed in with her pellets, which she seems to be eating but she’s not eating all of her veggies.

I’m just looking for advice really, and what to expect if we do end up having to take her back in. Am I better off not feeding her the oats until I’ve weighed her again or do I carry on?

Sorry if I’ve rambled a little, I’m just worried about her. Thank you.

I’m sorry to hear this:

You need to weigh her every morning and step in with syringe feeding a fibre rich recovery feed or mush her pellets with water and syringe that to her.
She is losing weight because she isn’t eating enough hay. The syringe feeding aims to stop further weight loss by replacing fibre intake. Aiming for at least 60ml per day of syringe feed but the reality is, it is as much as is needed to keep her weight stable

I hope she is ok
