I just went to feed my 3 guinea's and I noticed on their fleece 4 wet patches, all round in shape and a dark colour, could be dark wee but it looks a tad brown in 3 corners in the hutch.

They have blue fleece so its hard to tell the colour but 1 patch is deffinatly yellow wee colour but all of the patches have like a creamy colou rin the middle? my hubby says its just wee because there is no thick mucus or anything which he thinks they would have if they had a bad stomach.

What do you think? they are all eating fine and jumping around when I gave them their fresh food just now.

The only new foods I have given the last 2 days are radish and some lettuce but they have had lettuce before and been fine.

Oh could it? what could of caused it? will they need to see the vet? I am unsure which one it is.

Can you put an old white towel or sheet down? And check the colour that way. Pee can be anything from creamy to normal shade. A reddish tint would indicate a water infection but sometimes beetroot and carrots can do it. :)

I agree with SunshineAndTwinkle ... if they wee on white sheet or paper, you will have more of an idea as to the colour of it.
My piggies sometimes have dark coloured wee, especially reddish colour after eating raw beetroot.
Do they seem healthy? Eating ok? Are they smelling ok ... i.e. not strong urine smells?

Hiya,

I have just checked on them, will get hubby to put a white sheet down in abit, they are all just having a snack. To test them I put a carrot in and some cabbage and they all seem to be eating fine.

They have had raddish the last 24 hours, ive not given them it before?

sometimes guine pig wee can be quite creamy in colur and thickness.

do what sunshine and twinkle says, next time they wee dab it with a white paper towel. if it comes back any other colour than yellow through to clear then you might have a problem.

i doubt raddish would affect it, there isn't enough pigmentation in it to affect their wee. Beetroot on the other hand will make their wee a reddy colour.

hope this helps jane

It has dried very dark in their hutch, I have just had a look at the patch on the fleece and its dried almost a very dark brown colour with a creamish tinge in the middle?

Getting them in the bath or on white tiles would be better, any cloth soaks it up and changes the colour slightly so unless you're working with blood or something it can be hard to tell. Sounds to me like they're ok, wee seems to discolour after a while. Hope it turns out to be nothing x

Also, the white/creamy bit in the middle can mean they're getting a bit too much calcium,Is it powdery once dried? If so try to cut down on kale/spinach/parsley that type of thing xx

I use brown fleece and that can go a funny colour not the best of colours to use I guess! Good idea about the bath Emma I never thought of that! x

Thanks,

Yes it looks like its thick the creamy stuf?

Will get that white sheet down now.

They have been having abit of lettuce/mixed lettuce the last 2 days and raddish but other than that nothing unusual.

hhmm, generally calcium deposits aren't something to worry about unless they continue for ages. Maybe cut down on the lettuce and radish? Try searching veg high in calcium on google and try not to give too much of that :) xx
