Hi all, i was just wondering if it is ok if my gps stay outside during heavy rain and wind? I secure a picnic blanket that has waterproof lining on the underside upside down so the lining faces up all around the cage with a small gap so they can still breath. Most of them time if it is raining normally, i put the under my house in their hutch but after the last couple of times I've noticed it leaks when it rains heavily. The one time i did leave them outside during heavy rainful (not on purpose, it happen whilst i was at work), they were dry inside but I'm not entirely sure if they will be ok in the future. I need a definite answer with this one so i can make a decision about how they are going to be situated during bad weather. Thank you in advance :)

If you can bring them inside, even if it's a shed or (unused) garage that would be best. I find that most small animals can cope if it's cold but if it's cold wet and windy they suffer. I keep mine in a garage with heat pads etc when required and it's lovely knowing they are out of the elements. Many people also keep them inside the house which means they can stay warm and toasty too. However, you can't mix and match. If you bring them in the house they have to stay in really until it warms up again in spring. Sudden changes in temperature also affect piggies badly.

You can buy roof felting which you could secure on three sides then something over the wire that is breathable that will shelter them.I had rabbits outside and put carpet over the top and wire.Because the carpet wasn't flush it protected the hutch from the rai n without cutting out air if that makes sense.I made sure the carpet overlapped.

Ok, I think I'll just bring them in when there's really bad weather then. Thank you ☺

I've used Tarpaulin in the past to keep of rain. Tie it down so no rain drips down the back of it
