I am a first time guinea pig owner and I got my piggies back in November of 2022, recently one of my guinea pigs has had an eye that looks watery but I'm not sure how to tell. It is glossy (which I know is normal), but on the lower part of her eye it looks like there is water building up(but it is only slight). Is this normal or should I get it checked out by the vet?

Does the eye look like it’s squinting? Eyes are classed an emergency so there’s no harm having it checked out.

I’d rather be told there’s nothing wrong than risk missing something that could be easily dealt with.

No the eye doesn't look like it's squinting normally, although when she's laying down she does squint her eyes. My other pig doesn't do that so maybe?

Thank you! I'll get her checked out asap, I am sick right now though hopefully that's not an issue.

For a suspected eye injury any vet can see a guinea pig - it doesn’t need to be an exotic vet. In the U.K. eye issues are treated as needing same day review. It’s always worth getting any eye issue checked out sooner rather than later as they can deteriorate very quickly. Good luck.

I got her checked out yesterday evening and everything was alright!
