Hi TGPF - We've recently taken our youngest Boar, Walker, to the vets as his eye was looking watery - The vet prescribed him a course of antibiotic eyedrops as he had a stint of conjunctivitis; the vet also did use a dye to check for any damage, and it came back clear - Just to be on the safe side, she prescribed the eyedrops for 5 days. We completed the course, however Walker's eye (Specifically the fur under his eye - Near the tear-duct?) that had a stint of conjunctivitis is still wet - Is this common? Does he need a second course?

He is otherwise healthy, eating and drinking normally, behaving normally and is putting on weight normally.

Unfortunately the two of them had a huge falling out from their return from the vet's - Seems Walker got antsy at having to take more medication (The vet diagnosed with an underlying URI for Walker, thankfully caught super early), and started a tiff with Bluebear that ended up with Walker drawing blood on Bluebear's mouth.

We've separated them and have split their current cage 50/50, and have placed freshly washed sheets to help neutralise the space - Our question is what now? We've read the Boars guide to fights here on the forums, but still have questions:

  • We usually bring both of them to the vets in one carrier - I assume we need to purchase a second carrier?
  • If not, do we only bring one of them to the vets now?
  • When we go to boarders, I assume they’ll need to be separate?
  • Is this the right thing to do?
  • Is there any chance for rebonding or rescuing their bond?

I am very sorry they have had a falling out. Sadly, since blood has been drawn, they will need to stay separated.

Yes, you will need to purchase a second carrier. It’s up to you whether you want to take them both to the vets or not. Yes, they will need to stay separated at the boarders but please ask that they are put in cages next to each other. Sadly, now blood has been drawn, it’s unlikely they will re bond. If you do decide to try, make sure to re bond them in neutral territory and have a towel or oven gloves ready for if you need to step in and separate them Bonds In Trouble
