Hi,
I bought 2 cage liners from ziggys piggies- the kind with the absorbent layer in the middle. Initially they were great and I only had to change them 1/2 week. I have noticed the last few weeks they are soaking right through to the bottom of their cage. Do they Lose their waterproodness? I've had them about 6/7 months. I love the fleeces but it could work out prices if I have to keep replacing them....

Thanks for any advice

these liners are not waterproof!the toweling soaks up wee/moisture,but once saturated will leak excess water,.i would suggest you change more frequently or put pads in the areas your piggies wee most/or litter trays.ensure you are washing without any fabric conditioner, and put white vinegar in the last rinse cycle.maybe washing at 60 degrees.ive had liners from ziggy piggies into there third year, ive 4 piggies on my liners,i change mine out every 5 days.i hope this may help.:)

Well that's what I don't understand. They used to be great but lately I've noticed they are wet through to the bottom of the cage within a day. I have a litter tray and they do a lot in there but it looks like they've been wetting next to the tray. I'm washing with no fabric conditioner and at 60. I just don't understand what's changed. I don't really want to have to change every day especially s I never used to. I thought the liners had an absorbent core that locked away the moisture in the middle leaving bottom and top dry?

you are correct that the inner core absorbs the moisture,if too much moisture occurs then it leaks out,but not after one day.sometimes the fibres can get clogged with washing detergent, and needs detoxing !maybe run them through the machine just with white vinager.have the piggies been drinking more, therefore peeing more.i place ziggie piggies lap pads under houses and areas they rest and sleep.what a pain for you.c and e liners have zorb in,i find they are much better at absorbing large amounts of moisture.maybe put a towel under your liner,i use paragon laundry cleaner ,as it kills all viruses, bacteria, fungal spores at 30 degrees,it is on the halo website, mite and flea laundry cleaner, sounds gross, but it is a very gentle cleaner.i sometimes use napisan as well, from wilkos..

I can't say much about cage liners but I have bought expensive pee pads online and found they were great when the piggies were babies/younger but now they are 10 months i'm changing pads daily and have had to resort to making my own to keep up with all the damp or wet pee pads. My theory is the piggies have bigger bladders now they are bigger and hold more pee so they are peeing more. I have also noticed that after 9 months of washing the online bought pads that the fleece is no longer as thick as the newer ones I have made that are still working well. I think the thicker/newer the fleece the more absobent it is.

fleece should only let the wet pass through remaining dry. Maybe the inner layer has been ruined... I think it is important to keep a perfect dryness on the "floor" and also a perfect hygiene. It is like diapers for newborns; I remember when the hospital paediatrician used to suggest us parents the cheapest diapers because they need to be changed frequently and bacteria hardly ever remain in contact with the baby's delicate skin, whilst the famous brands guarantee long hours of "safety" (but keeping germs there).
About piggies it is just the same and at the end I see that free old newspapers guarantee no odour, no wet and even no money. Only a little daily work...

Well the plot thickens! I changed the liner this morning. Tonight under the litter tray it is soaked! The top is dry but the cage floor is wet and the bottom of the fleece pretty damp. I can't see how that's happened under the litter tray though!
In addition, I put them on a lap pad while I cleaned their cage and when I went to put them back in that too had wet through to the floor! It's like the pee is just soaking straight through with nothing catching it in the middle.
When you say newspapers- what do you put on top? I can't go back to wood shavings!
I will try and wash abliner in white vinegar at 60 and see what happens. If still no joy will need to get some new ones. Might try the c and e ones. alrhoigh I have no idea what that stands for so hoping someone can provide more info!
Thanks for all the replies

into my cage there are three layers; at the basis next to the coroplast I have put some old towels, only for having a thicker floor. They remain dry and clean and have been there since March (never washed). On this first layer there is a second one made of leaflets from supermarkets (I used also newspapers, now I have access to a lot of leaflets and I am using them). On the papers there is the fleece.
During floor time, once a day, I remove fleece+wasted hay+leftovers+poo, I shake the fleece on the floor, I hang the fleece out to dry (but it is dry actually) and I remove the wet spots and the wet leaflets. I add some pictures, so that you can understand.
I am satisfied of this simple method... althoguh it is necessary to remove the wet papers in a daily basis (otherwise, after two days, I would find a mess under the fleece)

that is bizarre @Bigsize9fot .c and e is just the name of the company who make zorb liners, they are alittle more expensive, but have lasted way longer than other liners, some ive had four years and still as good as new.x

Fleece isnt absorbent kylie, the stuff in the middle is eg zorb, mattress protectors, etc

It does seem odd that theybare wet after one day!
Yeah I know, I'm not sure that's what i was trying to say in my head but oh well communication is not my steong point lol
