Watermelon.

I bought half a watermelon at the market today whilst doing piggy shopping (it was half price lol). Do pigs enjoy watermelon? Should I take the rind off, or just lob a slice in and let them at it? Will they automatically stop eating when they get to the rind? :^-

Hmm... not sure about the rind. I usually cut it off (although they have had a few nibbles and been non the worse for wear) I take the pips out too - just in case

Willow especially loves it and gets juice all down her chin! drool

Mine love it! They seem to like the crunchier parts best, so along the rind They look like vampires when they are done

They can eat the rind, but should not have too much of the flesh as they are VERY sugary! Never feed seeds.

Melon should always be an occasional treat rather than a regular part of the diet.

They aren't poisonous to people, anyway... Toasted melon seeds are a popular snack in the middle east

Mine had a plum melon last week, only a little thing about apricot sized, and they liked it, especially the rind, but I think that's what gave Milo soft poo with tails on the next day

Is the rind of all melon ok then? I've only tried my pigs on the odd chunk of galia flesh. They love it but the rind would give them more of a workout.

I tend to buy a snack box size from asda or tescos about £1.50, it contains about 8-10 pieces of 4-5 varieties. My girls love it, when I put it on the floor Paprika will take a piece and run around the room before settling down to eat it.

I've given mine the rind in the last few days, chunks of it, about an inch x inch say. They've had about 6 of those and they loved it more than the fleshy pink bits. I think it is fine in smallish doses. That was a 'traditional' watermelon, with the green skin and pink inside, I'm not sure about other melon skins.
