My boys love love their veggies but I wanna start encouraging more fruits they eat cucumbers and apples fine they hate oranges and berries which is odd So I wanna try watermelon next I know only small amounts so what is recommended ways for watermelon like how much or how often and will it change poops or pees in anyway that might scare you if you don’t know. Xoxo

Fruit is not something which needs to be in their diet at any time so ’encouraging’ it wouldn’t be recommended.

Any fruit is too high in sugar and citrus fruits are too acidic and can lead to an infection in the mouth called cheilitis.
Any fruit should be considered an occasional treat and be kept to one very small piece and given no more than once per week.

However, while cucumber is technically a fruit, in terms of a piggy diet it is not. A chunk of cucumber is safe to feed daily as it is mostly water and not high in sugar.

:agr: I wouldn’t encourage them to eat fruit.

If you are eating watermelon then the piggies can have a little piece of the rind, as long as you don't leave any red flesh on it. They might like it, they might not. It depends on the piggie. I have fed all kinds of melon rind, just a bit of the rind after I ate the melon, and various piggies have eaten it or not, depending on them. It makes no difference to poos etc but provides variety.

I seem to have come off wrong I suppose
I know sugary fruits aren’t good for them and never attended on making it a daily meal thing I just wanted them to try more treats (for a once in a while thing) and was asking us watermelon okay or approved and does it mess with poops or not so I won’t have an concerns
I like to encourage them to try new things whether it’s a monthly treat or a new veggie for their daily thats all

I read they can have the red part but are they not supposed to?

The red part is very sugary, we bred it sweet for our tastes and our digestion. So to a piggy it is incredibly sweet. They have a much better digestion than we do, so it would be like us eating solid sugar (stick of rock or something) and lots of it all at once. It wouldn't hurt them, but it's not a good idea.

I'm sorry, I was a bit brusque there. Finding new and interesting things for your piggies to eat is a good thing, it is lovely when they have a varied diet and occasional extras. Please keep trying them on new foods, they are bit like children and develop tastes for things.

Have you tried cilantro? Mine really love it! They love parsley too, but that is a rare treat. I know my suggestions aren't fruit, but mine don't like fruit except the rare taste of apple.

I haven’t tried cilantro but they love love parsley and mine haven’t like any other fruits besides apple really either

I didn’t mean to be dismissive in my response. What I meant is that if they don’t like fruit I wouldn’t bother. Herbs are a good treat. You can also treat them to different types of hay. Or some fresh grass if you have any. Or a salad mix. Watch out for the ones that contain spinach as it’s high in calcium. Same for parsley. Mine like parsley but only got one sprig every two weeks or so. I haven’t bought it in a while. As for treats...they had a hay cookie last week and a blueberry last month. I don’t give them fruit (apple) or carrot as much as I used to.

Mine enjoy a tiny piece of melon rind on occasion but due to the very high sugar content I wouldn’t give watermelon.
For a treat mine love a chunk of cucumber- it’s a very special day when they get a piece according to them. This is something they get almost daily.
Mine also love chicory, dill and green beans

Don’t worry usually I appreciate any sort of critiques because I love my boys to death so I make sure I’m doing the right thing
What would you recommend for a daily bowl of veggies I want them to be healthy but enjoy their food

Mine do like watermelon... it's a very rare treat, once or twice in the summer. But they definitely really enjoy it!

Mine love melon rind with a bit of melon that's left of it. They don't get watermelon mainly cos I don't like it. Melon rind is a very rare treat for them and it's like guinea pig crack. Most nights my 3 girlies get lettuce (Not Iceberg), cucumber, coriander (Cilantro), bell pepper and augergine (egg plant). Here is our guide to veggies and piggies with a sample plate.

Mine adore watermelon but so do me and my son so they only really get the rind. If they are lucky they get the end bits that have a nice chunk of red on it but the rest is all ours 😂

The daily staples are cucumber, bell pepper, green bean, coriander and lettuce (not iceberg). You can then add in other things. Mine generally only get those staples. I may occasionally buy a salad mix to change things up. But I haven’t really regularly fed them anything else the last six months or so and they seem fine. Others do give their piggies a more varied diet though. Have a read of the guide below, it lists other veg.
