hi all, gutted to be writing this post today but i am after a bit of advice please. we have noticed over the last couple of days that sometimes when the girls have a wee, they are squeaking. immediately because della has had a bladder stone before, i have started to worry but i have noticed she isn’t the same as how she was previously, when she had the stone she was weeing lots more, pinkish in colour too, and the squeaking was so loud and obvious she was in pain. this time round we are noticing its not every wee she has and the sounds she is making aren’t as high pitched and obvious that its a ‘pain’ sound. not only this but the girls are very vocal anyway, so sometimes do just make funny noises even when not weeing! as i have said, both the girls seem to be making these noises but not every wee.. could it be possible that they both have a water infection? are there any other tell tail signs that may help us establish what is going on? both Della and Luna are eating well, drinking and acting how they normally are, no huge weight loss (>5g) and we haven’t noticed any pink/red wee.

i’m going to be contacting the vet tomorrow anyway but thought id ask for opinions on here either way! thanks everyone, hope you have a great sunday!

i forgot to add, they are both just coming out of season, their wee smells quite strong i don’t know if this is normal when in a season or another indicator of maybe a water infection?

Good luck at the vets. I don’t have experience of UTI but sending healing vibes and a hug.

It's a tricky one because usually if you have two piggies you can compare the poorly one to the other. It's possible that your two have both got a UTI at the same time but I must say that it's not something that's ever happened to us! If the pee is strong smelling it might indicate something amiss like an infection, or just a lack of drinking... have there been any changes to their water supply recently? Anything that might make them suddenly drink less than they should?
In your shoes I would also be visiting the vet. Untreated, a UTI can increase the likelihood of stones anyway. They might suggest you take a urine sample - they might not. But it would certainly be handy if you could get a video of the noise they make when peeing. I hope it turns out to be nothing serious x

ah yes of course! as i said i’m not 100% sure if its just luna being noisy as she does it when running around and doing other things too. della on the other hand has definitely got something up, unfortunately we noticed red in her wee last night, i am really really hoping it is just a UTI and nothing more😖
they both drink rather well and no changes to water etc, the only thing we have done recently is start giving them lettuce again (after finding out green beans weren’t the best choice) so i wonder if this could be linked?

thanks so much for your response, we are booked in with the vet this afternoon so i will let you know how it goes! fingers crossed nothing major!🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

hi all! just an update this afternoon, both girls have been seen by a vet, nothing worrying jumping out at her and she has agreed it sounds like possible UTI. we are pretty sure luna is okay as we have been watching them very closely and della has definitely shown she is in pain while going to the toilet + the blood, while luna hasn’t. obviously going to be keeping an eye on her incase we have missed something but for now della has been prescribed dog metacam 0.3ml twice a day and baytril 0.3ml twice a day for a week to see if she improves, if not she will back to the vets for a scan but hopefully it is just a UTI and it clears up!🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

hi all, just wanted to give a quick update, a week on pain meds and antibiotics and della (touch wood) is doing so much better! no more crying when weeing and we haven’t noticed any blood in her wee which is great! hopefully it was just a uti that we managed to catch and treat early.. obviously will be keeping a very close eye on her (not that we don’t usually!) but hopefully this will be the last of it! she is an absolute monkey taking meds so its great to be finished😅

we have noticed, mainly in della, but both the girls wee is sometimes quite chalky/creamy/white in colour and leaves little spot stains on the fleece.. is this something to be worried about?

I’m glad to hear she is doing better.
White wee is very normal, it is how they excrete excess calcium.
It is only if it is gritty it is of concern.
