I filter my pigs water to try and reduce their calcium intake. However, the filters on my water jug say to be changed every 4 weeks. This is getting a bit expensive. Obviously I will pay whatever it takes to keep my boys as healthy as possible but just wondering if anyone has any tips to keep the price down a bit and do the filters HAVE to be changed every 4 weeks?

I think the filters do have to be changed yes for it to work. Will speak to Mrs SB - she is a chemist so may know the science behind it :)

I change my filters every 8 weeks instead of the recommended 4 weeks. My piggies are still free from chalky wee spots. Before I used the water filter, they used to leave regular chalky deposits on the fleece.

Every 8 weeks would be better. I'm guessing that leaving it longer than 4 weeks could just decrease how much the filter works? I'm just worried there's a more serious reason that the filters have to be changed like the filtered water becomes dangerous?
