Hi guys I've read the pinned thread on this but I thought maybe people had some new ideas/experience. I have the ferplast sippy type water dispenser. I actually bought two but one leaked CONSTANTLY it was empty by the morning every time.

I didn't manage to send it back so it just got binned. I just have one medium one now which is fine and gets refilled twice a day just from drinking and occasional leaking I guess.

I did get the standard plastic ones but the girls didn't seem to use them. Does anyone have any recommendations. I like the look of the natural world glass ones, especially with summer coming up as it's
Likely to keep the water cooler. Anyway what do you think?
Thanks! Tom

I use the living world glass ones. I like the longer spouts, not a fan of the classic plastic ones. They also come with a little plastic carrot float, or a rubber duck. I have seen ones with a mini corn float but they seem to be rare now lol.

I have one the same made by katee, and it must be about 8 years old and still works fine

I found that taking the sippy bottle apart with the grey connector thing it comes with and then putting it back together and tightening everything stopped mine from leaking! Just a tip you could try

I tried that but it didn't seem to work sadly. Ideally I'd like one that doesn't leak at all! I find the fleece is wet with water more than anything else these days.

I’ve been there before! I don’t think there’s many bottles, if any, that don’t leak at all. I believe there’s a thread on all the water bottles available. I’ll see if I can find it for you.

Edit: here it is All about drinking and bottles
Part 2 of the guide details all the different bottles to choose from and their pros/cons. Hope that helps :)

I've used the living world bottles (heh, mine came with the corn float @SkyPipDotBernie ) because I've lived with two boars (that did not live together) that were destructive maniacs where the plastic bottles were concerned, I don't know how they learnt to drink but I'd be going through a new bottle every couple of months because they'd somehow manage to detach the spout from the cap. By drinking.

I've also used the occasional bowl when the bottle hasn't been an option for whatever reason, but that had to be in a non-tip bowl or one pig would inevitably topple it over.

..I make it sound like I lived in a madhouse.

I find different pigs have different tastes.
We usually give all of them a glass and plastic bottle for a week ad see which one gets the most use.

Just re-read your post to see you’d already read the thread I’d linked, sorry :mal: !
I think finding a water bottle that doesn’t leak is slim to none. You could put an extra absorbent layer under the fleece where the bottle is, we do this regardless of if the bottle is particularly leaky or not. You could maybe even try a bowl but mine don’t seem to understand the concept, no matter how hard I try. Placing a bowl under the bottle could help? But I’m not sure if it would discourage them from drinking as they won’t be able to get as close to the spout. When the sippy bottles leak though, they leak like crazy, so may not help too much.
I know it must be hard to make a water bottle that doesn’t leak, but you’d have thought they’d have figured something out by now. I’d definitely buy a bottle that was proven not to leak without hesitation, even if the price was only slightly extortionate.
I had a boy who would pull and pull on the nozzle of the regular bottles as he was terminally ill and constantly thirsty which is why we ended up going for a sippy bottle. Now, one of my current boys was dealing with a jaw abscess so wouldn’t drink from the sippy (wouldn’t really drink much for himself anyway) so now we have a regular bottle and a sippy bottle as he has been finding the regular one easier. I find the other boy will just flit between the two to whichever he feels like. Maybe you could have both a sippy bottle and a regular bottle in, after a bit they might go to check out the regular one. If one does, the other will copy. Could also be worth a try if you’re desperate to get rid of the sippy bottle, they may just need a bit of time to adjust.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I have ordered the living world bug glass bottle. I saw there was a stand available, but decided against it as it would take up valuable cage space. Hopefully it'll be better than the ferplast one.

I do have a fleece pad underneath it currently but it's not that helpful. I appreciate your help.

I also use the living world glass bottles and they do not leak. Had them for years, since 2012 (but have changed over to newer ones)

Hello!
I mainly use water bowls as a few of my pigs didn’t learn the bottle at their first home. However I do put a water bottle on the 2nd floor especially for Mary as she loves it :lol!: it’s just a semi decent plastic one but it does drip slightly. SO what I do is put a flat rock underneath. It catches the water and dissolves (?) it into the rock. Mary is happy to prop her little tootsies up on it to have her drink :)

Ok we're all up and running! I've yet to see a pig use it yet but I'm sure they will soon enough. Bonus pic of a clump of grass I foraged for them this afternoon which they absolutely love!

I’m very interested to know how you get on with the bottle, so keep us updated! :)
Ok so all the girls seem to know what it's for, and they've a had a go but the water level has not gone down much at all. Good news is it it doesn't leak!

Is there anything I can do to encourage them to drink more or will they come round to it in their own time? What do you reckon?

They will drink the amount they need.

Pigs are weird when it comes to drinking. Most of mine don’t drink at all during winter as they get a fair amount of fresh veggies I suppose.

One of my pigs has always drunk a lot but only drinks at night (weirdo?). Maybe it’s because there are no fresh veggies at night.

The only time to worry is if drinking by one pig suddenly in or decreases. Especially increase as this could point to underlying health issues.

Interesting. Thank you for that. We weigh them weekly so I'll pick up on any significant weight loss. Good to know they're not big drinkers too.

I’m sure the level will have gone down a little, it’s funny because if your bottle was leaking a lot you may not have noticed how little your pigs personally drink. It can differ from pig to pig, some drink more than others. So maybe they aren’t overly big drinkers, but the leaking of your other bottles made you think they were? Just a possibility

This will sound ridiculous but what do you think of the metal spring they give you to attach the water bottle to the cage? First time I used it was an eye-opener for me lol, especially after the bendy wire they give you for plastic bottles.

It seems really effective!

I think you're absolutely right!

Sorry to jump on your thread. Has anyone used something like this? 8ED14F28-6407-41C2-B6AD-5D988A345172.webp

Its ceramic and called a “syphon drinker” here in Japan.

I use two of the CLASSIC water bottles and neither leak. When you put the water in you have to make sure you fill it right to the top with no air bubbles or air gaps. That creates a vacuum seal. Then screw the lid on, turn it upside down and attach to the bars. (No air gaps are the key, I think 👍🏻)

I agree with that. I’ve used the classic plastic bottles for 30 odd years and never had one that leaks.

Top tip guys. Don't overfill the living world bottles. If you do they can't get water out! 😭 Anyway the girls are fine now and it's great.
