The water bottle my guinea pigs use are the plastic kind from pets at home. They have been using them for a while now and so they have gotten very dirty with a lot of algae but the only way I can clean them is by rinsing them with water because a dish water will melt them. Does any one have any tips to help me get rid of the algae?

Sorry no tips - you just reminded me that I meant to buy a new one today! I read somewhere on this forum that they recommend replacing them every 6 months or so and I'm sure mine is older than that.

I have the plastic ones like yours, and I use a bottle brush with hot water and washing up liquid to clean mine, always cleans then really well.

I seem to remember someone suggesting Steradent tablets.
I use a bottle brush and hot water most of the time but replace them every so often.
I find after a few months they begin to leak anyway

I use the dry rice plus a bit of water technique or the piece of kitchen roll plus a bit of water and shake it all round inside. Both methods remove the green very quickly.

I used the kitchen paper method once - it worked very well, but it took me aaaaaages to get the soggy paper back out again!
