This may not be the place to post (?)

I switched to fleece a few weeks ago and there is a LOT of washing! @)

We use those gel tab washing tablet things, but they are quite expensive and I'm getting through LOADS of them. So I was thinking of getting one of those big boxes of powder with the scoop for the piggies washing, not a cheap cheap brand, but a big box so more value for money.

I would assume that piggies can be sensitive to washing powder like we can, what should I look out for if they aren't getting on with it? Should I go for a sensitive one?

Thanks in advance! :)p

I've actually never noticed any issues with washing powders, although to be on the safe side you could use a non-bio powder.

daz is cheap but a decent powder i got a large box for £3.50 this week. i cant comment on if its ok for piggie washing as ive not got my pigs yet but my daughter has sensitive skin and daz is ok for her

I use Daz washing powder and my piggies seem fine with it.

As long as it doesn't have a really strong scent, it's fine. Non-bio is most popular.

I use Tesco's own non-bio tablets, £3.50 for 48 tablets. A box lasts me about a month; I do up to five loads per cage clean (total 10x5 of fleece and towels, plus extra cosies!), using one tablet for each load. I do two cage cleans (10 washes) a week, so I do get a lot of washing for my money. I would not mind using the cheapest detergent either, as long as it got the fleece mostly clean!

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'm going to have a shop around because I can't carry on with this expensive stuff! I'll be broke in no time at all :( To be honest I could just swap the whole house over to a better value variety!

Thanks again :)p

I use Fairy sensitive as I went through a phase of incessant itching and my doctor suggested it was my washing powder. Not the cheapest but I looked like I had the chicken pox all the time with my big blotches. It is an extra expense but Mimsi is my only piggy who I keep on vetbed/fleece. The others are on megazorb..

I'm personally really sensitive with washing powders, and have to use things like Ecover, soapnut etc, but the piggies (who are supposed to have more sensitive skin than humans) have never been bothered by normal washing powder!

The other thing you can do, which I've certainly noticed helps me, is give things an extra rinse.

FOR ALL YOU DAZ USERS!

I've just bought a biiiiiiiig box from Sainsbury's, 5.44kg for £8.00 - It's an '80 washes' box. Well I bought two :(|)

It had an offer label on the shelves, "whilst stocks last". I'm not a regular shopping in Sainsbury's so I don't know whether this is the norm or whether it is only a short promotional price.

Good job really.... @) Gotta get that washer going tonight! @)
