Like every morning, yesterday morning we woke up to the guinea pigs playing and running full pelt around the cage and popcorning, mostly toffee running around, but for about an hour she was vigerously trying to mount our boy Lilly......(he is nuetured!) He is quite alot bigger than her as she is still a baby, but it didn't stop her persistantly trying, he wasn't really fussed about it and went about his business as always, however after a little while he was in the mood so started mounting her, she was laying their with her lady glory sticking up the air, (so i think she meant business and really wanted it) then they would run around and start popcoring again then she would try and mount him then he would mount her, this was going on over and over again for about an hour! I did tell Toffee she was going to get nowhere mounting him but she carried on anyway.

Why ws she doing this? Is she in season and naturally wanting a male to mate with her or is she just confused and getting a little over excited.

Its all back to normal now, but i would like your opionons on this behaviour.

Sounds like she had a strong season. All pretty par for the course. Sows in season can be quite madcap when hormones really strike! Thankfully, most of the other piggies are actually fairly tolerant when it comes to hormone overload.

Here is more about sow behaviour:

Ok, thanks for that, i will have a read through, we have never had this with any of our other females, do you think its because she is a baby and this might be the 1st time she has come into season? (I don't know how often they are in season) Will she grow out of it?

They have been together for 4 weeks and this is the 1st time it has happened.

I have found that sows tend to have stronger seasons i a new group and especially with a new boar at first. They have their hormonal phases like boys during the first year of their life, but it usually just shows in the odd big season.

Some sows you will hardly notice when they come into season and with others it is a regular drama. A big season is also a bonding occasion. You may notice your couple being more affectionate afterwards when they reaffirm their bond.

Ok, thanks so much for the advise, i have never noticed it with the other females, i cant say i have noticed a closer bond between them, i just hope our other female Minnie, i hope her nose isn't going to be pushed out of joint, seeing her daddy growing closer to the "new girl" - (if that happens) and then see the females start fighting.
