I had the fright of my life this morning!
I went in to see the boys this morning to do the usual daily routine and all was well as normal. For some reason before I went out for the day this morning I went in to see them again and found Frazzle stuck and hanging in the hay bag! He wasn't moving and I couldn't see if his eyes were open or if he was breathing. I untangled him and he ran straight into his hidey. I checked him over and he appeared fine. But I've thrown the hay bag in the bin. If I hadn't have gone back into the garage then I wouldn't have found him until now and I'm sure it would have been too late :(
So I just wanted to share my experience and say please think twice about having a hay bag inside the cage

What a fright. What did he get tangled in was it the hay ?

Poor thing! I'm so glad you got there in time.
Thanks for sharing with us, hope nobody else has to experience this!

Not to be insensitive but I dont feel a hay bag that is well designed is intrinsically dangerous the holes must be proportional the guinea pig either large enough so they can easily get in or small enough that they couldnt even try, in either of those cases the problem described couldnt arise. However, I will say I'm glad your guinea pig is ok and you've decided your hay bag isnt suitable.

Glad he seems ok, it would be worth getting him checked by a vet in case.

Was it a fleecy hay bag? Am wondering if either the hole is too small or he got caught in the hay somehow.

Luckily my girls have a number of hay bags i have made... They either have a very large opening so they cant get stuck or 3 very small ones so they cant get in. Sorry you had such a fright.
