Hi everyone,

I have booked by little Dougal in for an appointment to look at his boar bits as when I was giving him a clean and check over a couple of days ago I noticed some little white patches on his foreskin and he is booked in with exotic vet tomorrow when I take Diego for his cartrophen injection.Yesterday I gave him a clean with warm water and a cotton wool pad (the picture I have attached is the before) and it all came off (or at least I think it did) but today he still has a small similar looking patch on his foreskin. I gave him another clean with warm water but didn’t want to irritate him, although he’s fine in himself, eating, peeing and pooping fine but I noticed today a rather large sperm rod was sticking out of his penis before I extracted it.

I have tried looking up what it could be and I’m hoping it’s not fungal (if so luckily my guinea pigs are neighbours) but I like to prepare myself before I go to vets so I have time to think of any questions etc! What I have read so far I’m wondering if it could be boar glue/smegma, an infection of some type or calcium deposits? 🤔

I apologise in advance for the pictures as my good camera quality makes it look much worse than it is! 🤢

Ow that looks a bit sore poor lad, don’t know what it is but the vet should fettle it x

Yes poor little boy. He doesn’t seem in discomfort at all when I touch it or when he’s peeing though at the moment. This was taken when it was quite large before I cleaned it but today it was about half the size. Hoping it’s nothing sinister either 😓 I’ve given him some dog metacam to tide him over too just in case!

Thanks @Betsy really worried it could be something awful now but not sure why it would clean away if it was something cancerous 😥

Update on my little man. The vet he saw was the top exotic vet at the practice I take them to and she wasn’t 100% sure what it was and thought it was probably boar glue or some sort of boy dirt 🙄🤣 she said he wasn’t in any discomfort and it didn’t look sore but to be on the safe side she has prescribed him with a short dose of sulfatrim and has said to see how he goes. Luckily it’s not anything fungal or anything horrible, which is what I was starting to panic it was!

Aw that’s good news, I’m sure if it’s boar glue it will work it’s way off and the Ab will sort out any infection x

Just a quick question and thought it would be best to stick to this thread instead of starting a new post... does anyone know if coconut (or any oil) is safe to use directly on a guinea pigs penis/foreskin? Dougal has been on the antibiotics for a few days and was pristine clean when he came back from the vets but a couple of white patches have come back which tells me it is definitely boar glue/mess 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣 . I have cleaned one patch off with damp cotton wool but thought an oil might work better like the coconut oil does on their grease gland? Thanks!

That’s good to know thanks! ☺️ I’ll keep trying with the warm water... think I’m probably being too gentle in case I hurt him as well xx

I have had a look @Veggies Galore but it didn’t mention using an oil, just a gentle guinea pig shampoo. It’s tricky as it’s his foreskin where the build up is so not like his penis, which is a bit easier to clean! I’ll try again in a couple of days and see how much has built up again. I might call the vets again depending on what it’s like as I’m wondering if it’s normal to be coming back so quickly within a couple of days!
