Hi-been doing lots of home renovating and changes these past weeks. The temps have stayed steady and even the warmer days finds our main home rooms staying under 75 f (23 C?). Not needing more than a couple fans. We have two rooms with cold ac upstairs in bedrooms and are planning on adding a window ac downstairs by the end of the month. Temps should be staying normal every day this month except for tomorrow in the hours of around 2 pm to 7 pm and hitting about 33 c for some of those hours.

We have all of our main cavy cages in our family room. That is 3 females and one male while the other one is in my daughter's room so not a problem there. The cages span the entire room and then some literally. I would like to bring out the smaller cages again that were purchased to put up in our bedroom for those hours tomorrow but hate that they would be much more cramped then normal. Will they be ok for these hours and any suggestions how we can make them more comfy? Our home is truly an animal home so not ocd at all about having them free if it can help. wondering if I can leave the girls' cage open for two and then one other cage for my very, very pregnant little girl, Pippin. Thanks again for any info or suggestions.

Normally I can really rely on this site for anything guinea pig.

The weather here is starting already to spike and it's still early so just going to wing it and watch them with the smaller cages. After today, should be fine.

Hi, I can only offer suggestions on ideas to keep them cool.
Human Water bottles that have been frozen and then wrapped in a cloth and placed in cage. Piggies can lay up against these when needed.
Offering watery veg such as cucumber or melon often throughout the day to help keep water intake up.
Using a small desk fan to circulate the air near the cages.
Good luck :)

There's some suggestion's in this link here Hot Weather Management And Heat Strokes
Sorry we were a bit slow on answering you but most members are in the UK and it was nightime here when you posted! Hope all is okay with your fur babies, very few of us need a/c here the temperatures are rarely warm enough. The last 3 days I've been back in my winter woolies and the piggy's have extra hay in their boxes again.

Thank you for your responses-just got on here and got the babies finally back at the cages. I remember the time difference for Italy being an hour earlier then you guys but it was a last minute panic. It's the last time too b/c hubby and I figured a few things out last night and this morning with this home and a/c plans. My daughter and I got the three girls upstairs into the small cage after watching for some time. We have about 6 'coolies' with fleece sleeves and all the babies were lying on them but after about a half hour this morning (really surprise heat wave) I was beyond frantic so we did scoop them up in the smaller cages in the bedroom. Medb kept Punky in her room with her a/c and he was fine. But we brought our monster Tybalt up into one cage and then the girls in the other with Pippin in the last. We kind of camped out in my room however and took turns with the girls being out on the bed with us an hour or so at a time while Tybalt terror was able to run in and out of the other little cage like he used to with the fleece on the floor.

It was a long day as the girls definitely were a little confused and I hope we did the right thing by this. We literally just brought them back down (almost 10 pm) as it just stayed over 33 degrees c all day. We talked with some neighbors for some questions about electrical here as the homes are same year and similar model so we can figure out the air conditioners. To top this off, Francesco has been a bit confused with the home and electrical as he's from Europe and watts, etc are just very different here. It's been a little frustration for him that we've been trying to solve so we can get the a/c's done. We also just finished the wall between the two bedrooms that we split from a large bedroom (ours and our daughters) while redoing all the electric in our son's room. Francesco says the wall sockets are old and have all different wattages with different stops. After talking to neighbors, we decided to leave the bedrooms with just the smaller a/c instead of rushing complete re-wiring and pull-throughs for watt conversion and are putting two more mid-size ones downstairs in the family room and living room/dining area where the large cages are. This was only a problem for only one outlet being able to safely have an a/c with some watts less then would completely cover the whole downstairs. We just bought this home in Jan. so still rolling with these things as we add more. Plan for the a/c so we never have to do this little musical chairs shuffle to our babies are for next week (Yay!).

Babies all got back in cages and were hopping and popping all over the place. My daughter was laughing and said she thought maybe they were happy to be back 'home' lol.

Pleased you got everything sorted I the end! Your Piggies will have been pleased to be back home. When we had snow here earlier in the year (very rare for Southern England) I brought my piggies inside as it got down to -10°C outside and shoehorned them into the Conservatory for a week as that was the coolest room in the house so the temperature change wasn't too much for there bodies. When the snow melted, I put them back outside again and all 5 were popcorning away and inspecting the hutch happy to be back home!

Wow, sounds like a long and stressful day!
Glad the piggies are ok.
Electrics are never fun, we just had an extension built and they had to take the wiring from original house, we had to find it all first though under the floor and this was after I’d had new carpet laid

Yikes! Hope to not get to that point with hubby's plans as the next project. I'm to the point of stripping all the carpet here. This home was in a flood back in 2016. Only hit the top of the living room but the last owner had already passed away so the out of state family put in a very inexpensive carpet with little care. My husband has to hold me back from ripping that up every day and seeing the hardwood underneath.
