Hi

I wondered if fleece will be warm enough in the winter for my outdoor piggies? I used hay and newspaper last year as bedding so what do i use for bedding when using fleece?

Thanks

Personally I wouldn't use fleece in winter because if its fixed to the bottom then there's not enough to bury in. Though if you were to pile crumpled up fleece in their bedding area they can snuggle into that. Also you'd have to replace it so often, the wet patches would freeze every night and would not be warm for your pigs.

My pigs are all on shavings, though when it was cold earlier this year my lone pig got a fleece on top of her hay, so she could sleep in that to keep her body temperature up. Got really messy, but worth it. :)

I agree. My 4 are housed on newspaper, shavings and hay in their living area and newspaper and hay in their sleeping area. At night time last winter I would throw a large fleece over the hay in the sleeping area. It was lovely when I went out to them in the morning and they were wrapped under the fleece. they were nice and toasty :) It is true that the fleece got messy though but worth it.

Ok ,interesting Ive been told fleeces are ok in the winter for outdoor piggies. but i see your points.:{
If you want to put fleeces in maybe put lots of cosies and extra material and fleeces also maybe put the hutch in a garage or a shed if possible:)

my two have got a lovely big fleecey bed that is covered and enclosed to sleep in. i use megazorb etc for everywhere in the hutch but they have a nice bed to snuggle up in at bedtime x
